You guys remember Rockell Martin? UPDATE!

From a hopeless situation to a happy home owner
The Guyana Committee of Services have been championing the cause for Rockell Martin, a courageous young woman who came to us with an incredible and harrowing story. This mother of three has seen some very tough days.
Rockell went from a happily married woman to a single mother with debilitating health issues that left her unable to provide for her children. She lost her mother and aunt and was faced with the threat of being homeless.
The founding members of the GCOS heard her story and wereso moved with compassion that they volunteered to build her a home for her and her children. Now that project is completed and the committee members are about to hand over a beautiful home to Rockell and her children. However, we still are facing the issue of furnishing her home, so our next mission is to g*ther contributions to assist with this phase of the project.
We will be having a handing over ceremony on Saturday 1st October at 1888 Block VI Farm EBD at 3PM. We are inviting members of the public to be a part of this and also bring any donations towards the furnishing of the house at this time. You can also contact Rockel Martin directly on 612-2817 or Rochelle Christie on 652-2480.
We would like to thank all the persons and organizations and the Ministry of Housing who were also moved with compassion and contributed their time, materials and made monetary donations.

An incredible story of love and courage,. Mother, a wife and Superhero in the making
The Guyana Committee of Services has embarked on another mission of compassion and charity. This effort is to help Mr. Mahindra Samaroo and his family. His family includes his wonderful wife Yashoda Basedeo and their two beautiful children – son Sachin 3 years old and daughter Ariana 2 years old. Mahindra Samaroo and his family hail from Bell West Canal Number 2.
Tragedy hit the family in March when Mr. Samaroo was working and fell off a scaffold some thirty feet above ground. He broke his back and then endured a painful surgery where steel was placed in his back. However, the surgery brought no relief because he is now bedridden, constantly in pain and facing various complications. We spoke to Mahindra's wife Yashoda who told us about all the difficulties that followed this tragedy. There are regular visits to the hospital for what seems like different complications every time.
Mrs. Samaroo had to take up the role of breadwinner and caretaker. It has been difficult, because now it seems like she has three children instead of two.
She lauded the government for their help when they gifted her, 15 bags of feed and one hundred and twenty chickens. She also credited a good friend she called Mr. Riddim flo who helped them finished their home. This simple, dedicated wife and mother’s dream is to be a nail technician and hairdresser, but her dreams are on hold for the moment.
Mrs. Samaroo went on to tell us what a good provider her husband was, while she stayed at home and took care of their children. She said, "He was a good carpenter and he worked for himself most of the times, but this time he didn't getting work and he went to work for this man and get hurt.”
We asked if she is receiving help from his employer. She told us that he used to give monies occasionally but recently she has not been able to reach him. When asked what she needs she selflessly told us that she needs help for her husband and their children. He wears diapers and so do the children. Even though they have a home it still needs to be furnished and many household items are needed. She asked for nothing for herself, even when asked how she copes with taking care of her gravely ill husband and two babies, while rearing chickens. She smiled and said, "I don't know, it's not easy but is me family and I have to do something.”
The Guyana Committee of Services, through Ms. Margaret Singh has made the first move with a small donation, but will embark on a mission to lift this family up as best as we possibly could. If anyone would like to donate to the Samaroo family please contact +592-681-5561. Only serious enquiries are needed in this situation. The family’s crisis is not a joke or spectacle and does not need any grandstanding or ridicule.
Guyana Committee of Services motto is " Help us, help others."
