6. Communicate your schedule to others - that prevents others from scheduling you for events you are not available for
7. Get better sleep. Remove the TV from the bedroom, begin to relax the mind and body half of an hour before your scheduled bed time. Maintain regular sleeping hours.
8. Don’t rush through tasks. Doing a task once is better than doing it twice. A task may take longer than you scheduled for it, however, doing it a second time will consume more of your valuable time.
9. When you don’t have the answer; ‘ask for help.’ Asking for help saves time. Help can be obtained through a phone call, an email, a whatsapp message or just asking someone that’s available. No turning of the wheel twice.
10. Jot information down (Don’t rely on your memory.) Writing everything down assists us in remembering to complete every task while on the go. E.g. picking up an item for the family while doing office errands, add it to the list between any two stops.
11. Don’t Procrastinate. Do not put off what should be done today for tomorrow or the following day. Procrastination does not make the task disappear. It must be completed; so do it at the earliest opportunity.
12. Have a daily ‘quiet hour.’ - take a break during the day. During the hour relax your brain, just sit down, walk around, read a newsletter. Refocusing time each day will lead to better management of your time.

Best Practices and Strategies for Small Businesses - Part 1

To envision success in business one must address the areas of Efficiency, Managing Stress & Management

Efficiency
More time an item most small business owners desire. However, ’ each day has twenty-four hours and no more.’ To maintain efficiency one must therefore make minutes matter.
Making Minutes Matter’ is essential in the daily operations of every business. To make your minutes count implement the following tips:
1.Create a “to do list” every day and review it often - tasks that are clearly set out before you will be accomplished in a more productive way.
2.Use your “spare minutes wisely’ - for example, catch up on reading a business book/magazine you have been meaning to read or use it to accomplish your scheduled reading time per day
3. Turn driving into learning times. Learning while in business is essential to growth. Listen to tapes on subject areas relevant to your business.
4. Learn to say no and delegate. Sometimes it is hard to say no but learning to say no is vital to one's sanity.
5. Know your peak hours. Be aware of the time of day when you are most high energy, peak performance. Use these times to complete the most challenging task on your list.

Register your business; then what?
Steps to Starting a Small Business

 Step 1
Set up a planning notebook to keep track of appointments, things to do, calls to make, errands to run, shopping etc. Finally, set up a work schedule so you won’t get sidetracked

 Step 2
 Gather information;
 Spend a few weeks researching home-based businesses. A library or bookstore can provide numerous books on business basics, and on the specific type of business that interest you
 Step 3
 Determine where the money will come from:
 There are three ways to finance start-up costs: use your own money, obtain a loan or find an investor. If possible, it is better to start small, use your savings, and not worry about repaying a debt.

 Step 4
 Decide on the type of business:
 Make a list of things you like to do, your work and volunteer experience, and items you own that can be used in a business. Look over this line-up, and using ideas from it, list possible businesses to start.
 Step 5
 Choose a legal name;
 The three basic legal forms are sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation. The most common is the sole proprietorship
 Step 6
 Pick a business name and register it:
If the business name you choose is different form your own name, file an assumed (or fictitious) name with the Deeds Registry. This means that you can use your own name for the business or create one that states what’s involved in your business.

 Step 7
 Write a Business Plan
 A good business plan should include a description of what you are selling, who the prospective customers are, how you plan to promote, and how much money is needed for start-up costs.
 Step 8
 Select business cards, stationery, advertising brochures, etc.:
 They make a definite impression – good or bad, on the people who receive them. If you are not certain what is most suitable and effective, consult a graphics designer or advertising agency.
 Step 9
 Set up record keeping systems:
 Put together a simple and effective bookkeeping system for income and expenses. Use a pocket divider for each month’s receipt bank statement, deposit tickets and cancelled checks.
 Step 10
 Open a checking account:
 Call several banks to find out what services they offer. Bank fees can be significant, so shop around for the best deal.
 Step 11
 Obtain Licenses & Permits:
 It’s very important not to overlook any necessary license or permit. Some cities and countries require a general business license. If the product or service you sell is taxable you need a Government sales tax permit (vat.)
 Step 12
 Choose a mailing address:
 Using a post office or drop box as the business address down plays the fact that you are a home-based business

12. Steps to Starting a Successful Small Business

• Will your product/service satisfy those wants, and
• Will you make money while doing the above?
Step 2
 Organize yourself
