We would like to invite you to our event, organized as part of Refugee Week Greece in collaboration with Καθ' Οδόν ΑΜΚΕ, on the subject:
“Creating Safe Spaces: The Role of Housing in the Mental Health and Integration of Young Refugees.”

Through this event, we aim to highlight the multiple dimensions of homelessness and housing insecurity, emphasizing not only the lack of housing itself but also the various forms of hidden homelessness, social exclusion, and psychosocial destabilization. Special attention will be given to the experiences of young refugees and the impact of lacking a safe and stable living environment.

Through theoretical presentations, experiential approaches, and personal testimonies, the event seeks to foster an interdisciplinary dialogue on the right to housing, social inclusion, and good practices for supporting refugee populations.

The event will take place on Thursday, June 18, from 09:30 to 14:00, at Faros School, 29 Cheyden Street, Athens.

Our latest psychoeducational workshops created a safe and supportive space for our girls to share their experiences, needs, and hopes for their education and future 🫶

Our students spoke about what helps them learn, the challenges they face in school, and how they envision a more inclusive and supportive learning environment. They highlighted the need for academic support, safe spaces to study, privacy, as well as more information on their rights and gender equality ⚖️

Many also reflected on how social and cultural expectations can limit their opportunities and freedoms compared to boys.

We are grateful to the UMCOR - United Methodist Committee On Relief for supporting this work and helping us create spaces where young voices are heard 🤝

As part of our art workshop series, students came together for a collaborative collage activity 🖼️

Through colour and creativity, they explored self-expression and teamwork, creating a vibrant collective artwork to display here at Faros School!

Stay tuned to discover more inspiring creative projects from our students 🎨

We are very proud of our students, who participated in the performance of the Greek National Opera, "A wish that might come true", part of the Co-OPERAtive initiative. 🎭

The performance, based on the work of Gabriel Carcia Marquez "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings", challenged our preconceived ideas of "the foreigner" and introduced us through the eyes of the children to the meaning of trusting, accepting and fighting collectively.

In a collective performance of acting and singing children produced what in reality was a statement of action-oriented empathy.

We believe that education and art teaches that love and peace can break the circle of violence and trauma.

Congratulations to all 🪽

📚 In our English classes, students are learning and building confidence through creative and innovative methodologies 🎨

Students learn English through interactive lessons and digital tools making learning engaging and fun. Through our Holistic Action Plan, we make sure each student gets the support they need, at their own pace.

Athina Tanatzi, our English teacher at Faros School helps guide our students every step of the way:

“Working at Faros has shown me how meaningful it is to support children as they grow, express themselves, and discover their potential.” 🤝
