Today has been designated as the World Day and has been set aside to appreciate and find ways of identifying, managing and preventing children and young people suffering from ailment.
Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a group of permanent movement disorders that appear in early childhood. The signs and symptoms vary among people and they often include poor coordination, stiff muscles, weak muscles, and tremors. There may be problems with sensation, vision, hearing, swallowing and speaking.
CP is caused by abnormal development or damage to the parts of the brain that control movement, balance and posture. Most often the problems occur during pregnancy however, they may also occur during childbirth, or shortly after birth.
This therefore calls for concerted effort from individuals, parents, health personnel and civil society organizations to find better ways of sensitizing, managing and preventing the disorder from occurring among children at the early stages of pregnancy through to childhood so we can save our future generation of being wiped away by disorder in our country.
Do you know babies with cerebral palsy who have stiffness issues might cry more and be harder to put to sleep than non-disabled babies, or "floppy" babies might be lethargic?
Do you know children with Cerebral Palsy have significantly higher rates of sleep disturbance than typically developing children?
Are you aware babies with Cerebral Palsy do not roll over, sit, crawl, or walk as early as other children of their age do?
The following hypothetical questions should help us in identifying, sharing and finding solutions to a childhood disorder known as “Cerebral Palsy”.
i. Have you heard about the childhood disorder known as Cerebral Palsy before?
ii. Have you watched a documentary or video of any cerebral palsy patient before?
iii. Do you know of any girl or boy with strange movement disorder that appeared in early childhood stage?
iv. Have you observed the following symptoms in a cerebral palsy baby?
a. Poor coordination
b. Stiff muscles
c. Weak muscles
e. Problems with sensation, vision, hearing, swallowing, and speaking.

"Anybody who has survived his childhood has enough information about life to last him the rest of his days" - Flannery O'Connor.
The above quotation should stir your minds into thinking about some basic childhood disorders that are known and unknown, and seems to be killing us into realizing our goals and aspirations from the time our mothers get pregnant through to childhood development.

"Each second we live is a new and unique moment of the universe, a moment that will never be again. And what do we teach out children? We teach them that two and two make four, and that Paris is the capital of France. When will we also teach them what they are? We should say to each of them: Do you know what you are? You are a marvel. You are unique. In all the years that have passed, there has never been another child like you. Your legs, your arms, your clever fingers, the way you move. You may become a Shakespeare, a Michelangelo, a Beethoven. You have the capacity for anything. Yes, you are a marvel. And when you grow up, can you then harm another who is, like you, a marvel? You must work, we must all work, to make the world worthy of its children." -- Pablo Casals

We are disgusted, saddened and terrified as to what the future holds for girls around the world, if the world does not unite now and take a stand to demonstrate that these grotesque crimes against humanity will not be tolerated. These brave girls were taking a risk every day by getting an education. They are the future leaders and drivers of change in their communities and economies. It is a tough fight to fight alone, and a global effort is required not only in resources, but also in awareness. All women and girls deserve these same basic rights. - Gina Miranda
