WACPS' radio talk show on the ongoing crisis in Burkina Faso and Sahel Region.

WACPS was hosted on Accra FM 100.5 FM's “Ghana Yensom” morning show anchored by Kwame Appiah-Kubi a.k.a Mr. Speaker on June 4, 2021.
The G5 Sahel countries (Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali, Chad and Mauritania) have become victims of the spillover effects of the Libyan crisis and the Iraqi war. Ex-combatants from these war-torn zones with more sophisticated weapons started unleashing terror in these countries to promote their religious ideas.
There are four main armed groups operating in the region: namely ISIL, Boko Haram, JNIM and ANSARUL ISLAM. The crisis in West Africa's Sahel Region appears to be getting worse. ISIL in Greater Sahara has been launching attacks in Niger since the end of 2016.
Boko Haram and ISIL West Africa Northeast of Nigeria with Niger and Chad with defeat of ISIL in Iraq it is probable that some might have moved through Libya.
The UN Security Council expressed alarm over the recent increase in violence and called on governments to provide more help.
There are already thousands of French, UN, and African troops in the region...
Yet despite this, the Sahel's vast area has seen a sharp rise in attacks by ISIL and Al Qaeda linked armed groups over the years.
Hundreds of people have been killed and many more forced to seek safety in camps.
Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger have suffered some of the worst attacks against their militaries - including an attack that killed 71 soldiers from Niger in 2019.
Regional leaders have also been holding meetings - appealing for greater international help.
Since 2015, Burkina Faso has been suffering jihadists’ attacks including the current one leading to the influx of IDPs and possibly refugees.
Splendid Hotel suffered an attack on the hotel and a restaurant in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, January 18, 2016
Jihadists assaulted and shot civilians, burning down homes and the market in Solhan village in the Sahel country's Yagha province on the night of June 4th, 2021. As many as 160 civilians, including women and children, were killed and 40 others wounded in a violent raid on a village in Burkina Faso, marking the African country’s deadliest attack in years.
Yagha is in northeastern Burkina Faso and borders Niger.
Hundreds of people fled to a nearby town to escape the violence. No group has claimed responsibility, but terrorism analysts have predicted the attack was likely carried out by al-Qaeda-linked group Jama'at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin, which has strengthened its presence in the troubled Sahel region.
The attacks were allegedly a response to volunteer fighters in the area who fight alongside the Army as community volunteers, which makes their area a more significant target.
The attack comes as Burkina Faso's military has struggled to stifle the exponential rise of Islamic extremism that has taken root in recent years and displaced thousands of people.
Agence France-Presse reports the military had virtually deserted the area in recent months.
After the attack, Burkina Faso President Roch Marc Christian Kabore called for three days of national mourning, condemning the civilian slaughter as “barbaric” and “despicable.”
The U.N.'s Peacebuilding Commission released a statement Monday saying that it's "profoundly saddened by the killing of over 160 civilians" by "unidentified armed assailants in the Sahel region of Burkina Faso.
