Your WASSCE results are out.
Before you do anything — before you call anyone, before you check your aggregate, before you accept or reject any advice from any relative — read this.
In the next 48 hours, thousands of Ghanaian SHS graduates will make decisions that affect the next 4 years of their lives.
Based on panic.
Based on incomplete information.
Based on what someone told them at a family gathering.
The student who got excellent results will assume the path is clear — it is not.
The student who got disappointing results will assume the options are closed — they are not.
Both students are making the same mistake: deciding before they understand what they are actually deciding.
NEXT STEP was written for exactly this moment.
📖 42 chapters covering every pathway — university, technical, health, TVET, entrepreneurship. How to calculate your aggregate correctly. What your results actually mean. What to do in the next 12 weeks.

MDC LICENSURE EXAMS GHANA
🩺 **GHANA MEDICAL LICENSURE EXAM: DON'T WAIT UNTIL AFTER FINALS TO START PREPARING**
For Ghanaian medical graduates, the journey is changing.
Passing your medical-school finals is no longer the only examination milestone to think about.
The **Medical and Dental Council Ghana (MDCG) licensure examination** should now be part of your preparation strategy. 🇬🇭
So how should a medical student prepare?
# # # 1️⃣ BUILD CLINICAL UNDERSTANDING — NOT JUST FACTS
Don't only memorise:
“Treatment of heart failure = A, B, C…”
Ask yourself:
👉 What clues make this heart failure?
👉 What else could it be?
👉 What investigation comes FIRST?
👉 What would I do NEXT?
Licensure examinations should reward **safe clinical decision-making**, not just memory.
# # # 2️⃣ MASTER THE COMMON CONDITIONS
Start with the patients you will repeatedly meet in Ghana:
🩺 Hypertension
🩸 Anaemia
🦠 Malaria
🫁 Pneumonia
❤️ Heart failure
🧠 Stroke
🍬 Diabetes
🩺 AKI/CKD
🤰 Obstetric emergencies
👶 Common paediatric emergencies
**Common things must become easy marks.**
# # # 3️⃣ START DOING MCQs EARLY
Don't wait until you've “finished reading.”
Questions expose what you **think you know but don't.**
For every MCQ, ask:
**Why is the correct answer correct—and why are the others wrong?**
# # # 4️⃣ THINK LIKE THE DOCTOR ON CALL
When you see a clinical scenario, train yourself to ask:
**Is the patient stable? → What is the diagnosis? → What must I do NOW? → What comes NEXT?**
🧠 Memory aid:
# # # **S-D-N-N**
**STABLE? → DIAGNOSIS → NOW → NEXT**
That simple sequence can organise many clinical questions.
# # # 5️⃣ DON'T NEGLECT ETHICS & PATIENT SAFETY
Consent. Confidentiality. Communication. Professionalism. Recognising deterioration. Escalating appropriately.
Medicine isn't only about knowing the diagnosis.
🔥 **THE GOAL IS NOT JUST TO PASS AN EXAM.**
It is to demonstrate:
**“I can be trusted with a patient.”**
📚 **SESA Study Lab is starting a dedicated MDC Licensure Preparation Series.**

🧠 **WHY DO YOU REMEMBER THE ANSWER AFTER LEAVING THE EXAM HALL? 😭**
You sit in the exam hall…
You KNOW you've studied this question.
But your brain says:
**“Sorry, no results found.” 😂**
Then 10 minutes after submitting your paper…
💡 **THE ANSWER COMES BACK!**
Why?
Sometimes the information is in memory, but **stress and poor retrieval cues make it difficult to access at that moment.**
So how do you prepare better?
1️⃣ **Don't only reread — practise recalling without your notes.**
2️⃣ **Do timed questions** so your brain learns to retrieve under pressure.
3️⃣ **Mix different topics** instead of practising only one type repeatedly.
4️⃣ **Use memory cues** — keywords, diagrams, mnemonics and associations.
5️⃣ In the exam, if you're stuck, **move on and return later.** Another question may trigger the memory.
🎯 **EXAM SUCCESS ISN'T JUST ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE READ.**
🔥 **It's about what you can RETRIEVE when you need it.**

😂 Be honest: **Have you ever remembered an answer immediately AFTER submitting your paper?**
