If given the chance, Iโll choose videography any day. But depending on the client, event, and production needs, I sometimes shoot hybrid, handling both photography and videography at the same time.
Over time, Iโve mastered hybrid shooting to the point where capturing both photo and video content feels less like juggling and more like instinct. Itโs demanding, fast-paced, and requires constant awareness; but itโs possible with the right skillset.
One thing Iโve learned in event coverage: understanding the brief is everything. Before you pick up a camera, understand the event, the clientโs expectations, and the purpose behind every moment youโre there to document.
Because in event photography and videography, moments donโt repeat.
Being a hybrid shooter means balancing storytelling, timing, and technical ex*****on in real time. For live events, you almost become the MCโs shadow ; staying close to the host or moderator gives you an edge because you can anticipate key moments before they happen.
The truth? Thereโs no off switch when shooting hybrid. No real rest. Every second counts, and every frame matters.
Do I recommend hybrid shooting?
Only when necessary.
If you can build a team and have a dedicated photographer and videographer for event coverage, do it. It makes the workflow smoother, the coverage stronger, and the final delivery better.
Do I recommend hybrid shooting?
I would say when the help / means is there to get either a photographer or videographer to tag along use it. Itโs the best decision.
