CLEAN-UP EXERCISE IN NANDOM MUNICIPALITY
As part of the President’s “Clean Ghana Campaign” under the National Sanitation Day initiative observed every first Saturday of the month, the Nandom Municipal Assembly, through its Environmental Health Unit, organized a massive clean-up exercise aimed at promoting cleanliness, improving sanitation, and encouraging community participation in keeping Nandom clean and healthy.
The exercise was led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in collaboration with the Environmental Health Unit. Prior to the event, there was extensive public sensitization, stakeholder engagement, and mobilization of logistics to ensure a successful exercise.
Over 300 participants took part in the activity, including staff of the Nandom Municipal Assembly, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, midwifery students, market women, youth groups, religious bodies, NGOs, and community members. Their collective participation demonstrated unity, patriotism, and a shared commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
The exercise covered key locations such as Kogr-awai, the Court Premises, Central Business District (CBD), Town Park, lorry stations, and other public areas and drains. Activities undertaken included sweeping, weeding, refuse collection, and general sanitation improvement. The event started at 6:30 a.m. and ended at 9:30 a.m., with all participants actively engaged throughout the period.
In her welcome remarks, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer (MEHO) expressed appreciation for the impressive turnout and urged residents to sustain the practice of cleanliness beyond the monthly sanitation day. She emphasized that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility that promotes public health and enhances the image of the municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), in his closing remarks, commended all stakeholders for their active participation and expressed special appreciation to Zoomlion Ghana Limited for their logistical support and continuous contribution to the Assembly’s sanitation efforts. He reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving a cleaner Ghana through the National Sanitation Initiative and encouraged residents to make cleanliness a daily habit rather than a monthly activity. The MCE also appealed to community members to take ownership of their surroundings and avoid indiscriminate dumping of waste, while urging the Environmental Health Unit to continue its community education and inspection programs.
The clean-up exercise was a great success. It strengthened collaboration among institutions, improved environmental cleanliness across key areas in Nandom, and renewed public awareness on the importance of sanitation. The Nandom Municipal Assembly remains committed to sustaining this initiative every first Saturday of the month in line with the President’s vision for a cleaner and healthier Ghana.

Community Engagement at Mosi Zongo

Hon. Anthony Ziniel, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Nandom Municipality has engaged with residents of Mosi Zongo following an incident in which a community member was knocked down by a motorcycle.

During the engagement, the residents raised concerns about the safety of children and pedestrians crossing the road, noting the absence of speed ramps to slow down motorists. They explained that, in response, a local speed ramp was erected by community members but was later destroyed by another section of the community. This led to the matter being reported to the MCE for redress.

In his remarks, the MCE pledged to support the community with a temporal road ramps ("Roap Ramps") as an interim measure while also engaging the Urban Roads Department to construct durable concrete ramps. He further emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to educating and cautioning road users on proper riding practices, observing speed limits, and the mandatory use of helmets and riding mirrors.

The MCE also expressed concern about unsafe riding behaviors, including instances of motorcyclists riding without lights at night, which pose a risk of accidents. He assured residents that the police would strictly enforce the law and cautioned that the Assembly would not intervene when offenders are apprehended. He also appealed to community elders not to interfere in police operations, a plea which the elders welcomed and pledged to support.

The engagement ended with assurances from the MCE that the road ramps would be in place by Friday, with further updates to be provided if delays occur. The Municipal Police Command also pledged their support in maintaining peace and ensuring safety in the Nandom Municipality.

MCE Hon. Anthony Ziniel Conducts Site Visits to Monitor Progress of SOCO Phase II Projects

On Tuesday, 27th May 2025, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Anthony Ziniel, embarked on official site visits to the Tampele, Bekyenteng, and Kandebegangn communities to assess the progress of ongoing works under the SOCO Phase II Projects.

At Tampele, the MCE was met with a disappointing sight. The construction of a 6-unit classroom block with a library had come to a standstill since 29th November 2024, despite building materials being on-site and the foundation already laid. Recognizing the urgency of the matter, Hon. Ziniel wasted no time in directing the review and possible termination of the current contract and re-award to a new contractor. This decisive action was necessary because the existing school block could no longer accommodate the growing student population, and a more spacious learning environment was paramount.

The mood brightened upon arrival at Bekyenteng, where the contractor’s swift and quality workmanship impressed the entire inspection team. The 6-unit classroom block with a library was already at the roofing stage, with assurances from the contractor that completion was just around the corner. This project promises to be a cornerstone for promoting progressive and quality basic education in the community — a key step toward realizing the government’s commitment to nurturing Ghana’s future.

However, the situation at Kandebegangn painted a stark contrast. The school’s infrastructure was in dire need of attention, parts of the building required re-roofing, much of the recently supplied dual classroom furniture lay broken, and the overall culture of maintenance was lacking. Hon. Ziniel has called for a detailed situational report and, in close collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) Directorate, vowed to close all gaps swiftly. The aim is clear: to transform the school into a conducive environment where both teachers and learners can thrive.

The MCE’s unwavering quest to uphold quality education echoes the vision of the President's vision who is championing accessible and excellent basic education as the foundation for national development. By taking firm steps to bridge these gaps, Hon. Ziniel is ensuring that the government’s promise to build a strong educational sector is more than just words, it is a work in progress, steadily marching towards success.
