Washing and sanitizing your hands is good. Wearing a face/nose mask is good. They may however, not save you if you come across a positive Covid-19 person. This is because the coronavirus is airborne and so you would be breathing it in anyway. Not all masks can stop the coronavirus from entering your nose and into your lungs. Your best option is to stay home if you have nothing essential to do outside home. Please, stay home and be safe. is real and dangerous.
