What does “4,000 watch time” on YouTube mean?
It means the total of hours for which all of your videos are watched.

Example:- You have 2 videos on your channel, one is 3 minutes long and the other one is 5 minutes long. On the first video (which is 3 minutes long), you get 100 views. So the watch time will be 3x100=300 minutes.

On the second video (5 minutes long) you get 110 views. The watch time of that video will be 5x110=550 minutes.

The total watch time of your channel now comes to 300+550=850 minutes i.e. almost 14 hours. So the total watch time of your channel will be 14 hours.

Your channel will be monetized only if you have 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours of watch time in the past 12 months. It is only then, ads will show up on your videos and you'll get paids.

I have 1.22k subscribers and 268k total views. How should I apply for monetization?
To apply for monetization, you can follow these steps:

Ensure your YouTube channel meets the eligibility criteria set by YouTube for monetization, which includes having at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in the past 12 months.

It’s funny, I’ve almost made as much with the Quora Partner Program in 6 months than I have with YouTube in 5 years.

Anyways, here’s the breakdown according to my stats.

Dollars per view: $0.000443
Dollars per minute: $0.000076
Avg video revenue: $1.14
So that means:

10 views = $0.00443

100 views = $0.04

1,000 views = $0.44

10,000 views = $4.43

100,000 views = $44.34

1,000,000 views = $443.45

10,000,000 views = $4,434.45

100,000,000 views = $44,344.55

1,000,000,000 views = $443,445.45

It also means:

10 videos: $11.40

50 videos: $57.00

100 videos: $114.00

200 videos: $228.00

This shows that usually it’s more profitable to maximize views rather than just putting out a bunch of videos.

First of all don’t compare your channel, your videos, number of views, likes, anything with another person’s channel. Just avoid to do this even if your channel falls into the same niche or topic. You never know how many years that other person with whom you are comparing, is making, uploading videos, what strategies he is using, from where he is diverting viewers traffic. You can never know those details.

So, just stop comparison!

There are few things you need to keep in mind.

It takes time to grow on youtube. It depends on your CONTENT AS WELL AS STRATEGIES.
If you think content of your videos is the only thing that matters the most then you are wrong. You will not gain views even if you make good videos by putting lots of efforts in editing, presentation etc.

That does not mean you should stop making good videos. There should be something about your channel that will attract people. The quality and uniqueness of your channel will keep people coming again and again on your channel.

Apart from content inside video, few more things are important. You need to show what is your video about through thumbnail, description and tags. Everyone knows how to do this but not everyone knows the importance of it.

Thumbnail, tags have power to bring your videos in searches, suggested sections and homepage. MANY PEOPLE UNDERESTIMATE THIS POWER!

You have to be careful while making thumbnail and writing description and tags. Work on your thumbnail and tags.

What do i mean by working on it. Include RIGHT KEYWORDS! How will you find what keywords are grabing views - There are many tools like tubebuddy.

Another important thing is increase your audience engagement with videos. Likes, comments and shares do matter ! It improves your video ranking. Encourage your audience to subscribe, like and comment below the video.

Most of people just open analytics tab in youtube studio to see numbers. Nobody studies those numbers and try to understand what’s working and why it’s working. Reading and understanding analytics is not at all difficult. No need to dive into numbers and percentage. Just look at the nature of graphs and you will get the idea.

Those graphs are reflection of your own content and strategies.

You should really be careful while making thumbnails. We all read text written on thumbnail first then text in the title. We do it unconsciously. So thumbnail is the first impression of your videos. It must be catchy but clear, concise and to the point.

There are many small things such as updating your playlists, ordering them in a manner make viewer’s life easy.

There are many things which I can suggest to grow on youtube but as I said it takes time to grow your channel. I think many people just focus only on videos and they don’t work on improving search rank of their videos. I will suggest you only one thing that don’t give up so soon. Every successful channel had 0 views, 0 likes and 0 subscribers in the beginning.

Just keep working on your content and strategies.

What is the most unfair thing in our society?

This boy had his whole life ahead of him, he had good grades, he was the star athlete at his university, until a classmate accused him of r**e.

This boy was innocent , he was imprisoned for 6 years for something he didn't do, his sports career collapsed, and also if he wants to look for work, no one hires a person with a criminal record .

This kid lost EVERYTHING .

What happened to the girl who falsely accused him?

Absolutely nothing. Not a fine, much less a conviction.

My YouTube channel is not monetized yet, but suddenly I saw one of my video views is showing YouTube ads. I have not added any ads on my videos. What should I do?

This is part of the new youtube policy. They're showing ads on videos that have lots of views even if the channel isn't monetized.

Which means they're showing ads on your videos and not paying you. There's nothing you can do except try to get monetization as fast as possible

Why is my channel not getting subscribers?
Because you aren’t driving any traffic towards your channel.

This is the most common issue that I see. Ten—or even just five—years ago, you didn’t really have to promote your channel at all. I have friends from that era who could post anything and it would rank in search and get thousands of views.

Those days are long gone. Every niche, every crevice of every niche, every nook and corner and cubbyhole of every crevice of every niche is saturated.

SEO is a joke. Unless it is a current, hot topic that has a ton of people searching and you beat everyone else to making a video about, don’t expect to show up in search. It isn’t going to happen, no matter how upbeat “YouTube YouTube influencers and gurus” sound.

You need to get people to your channel, and then convert them into subscribers.

The first has almost nothing to do with how good your content is, while the second is entirely just that.

So, find out which you are having trouble with:

getting people to your channel,
keeping them there.

Usually it’s the first.

Social media can help a lot. Share yo’ s**t. Someone said the other day that they saw my video on reddit. I’ve never even used reddit—if you have a loyal fanbase and they like your content, they might share it.

Running ads might not be a bad idea. YouTube ads are pretty cheap and could be a good way to grow.
Contact other people in your niche as non-creepily as possible and just say hi. Don’t ask for a shout-out or a collab. Just say hello and maybe how much you appreciate their work or something like that. Could be useful in the future.

Friends and family. If you have fifty friends and family watching your videos on a regular basis, that really adds up faster than you think. Get them to share it at work or with their friends. If you have good content, they’ll be happy to.

That brings me to content.

If you think your content is good, and most other people don’t agree, it’s not good. You aren’t making videos for you, you are making it for other people.
Extra details—especially humor—go a long way. Take any and every opportunity to add some liveliness and jokes to your videos.

Get to the point. Jokes aside, don’t waste people’s time. I don’t even introduce myself. They can read who I am.

Channel Trailer. Probably important. I should probably do this. Maybe by the time I get to 10k subs. Maybe…

Thumbnails. Not a strong point for me. But…it’s important. Get people to click.

Make your video AS SHORT AS POSSIBLE. I’m not saying one or two minutes. I’m saying as short as it can be while still maintaining quality and getting across all of the information. I will NEVER make a 25 minute video that could be 20 minutes. If it’s 25 minutes, it’s 25 minutes of solid-ass information.

Finally, you should expect it to be a grind. Spending 5–6 hours shooting and editing a video then uploading it from the s**tty Chinese intranet to the real internet to get a few dozen views and zero comments is what I was dealing with for the first few weeks, and that was even with traffic coming in from Quora.

Embrace the grind, and realize that if you keep improving, you’ll get there eventually.
