Why visit Ghana?
If you are looking for a cultural adventure in Africa or a safe English-speaking country in West Africa, it is difficult to argue for a different destination than Ghana. While we do not have a central wonder like the Pyramids in Egypt, or the density of wildlife as in eastern Africa, we do have many varied regions and cultures. This gives you the ability to have many different experiences within only one country - saving you on flights and visa applications. There are many reasons to visit Ghana!

FRIENDLY PEOPLE
Ghana is certainly the most welcoming country in the region, and according to Forbes magazine, was ranked the 11th friendliest country on earth. There is no other country in Africa that is so welcoming and hospitable. Her people are truly the #1 attraction of Ghana.

NATURAL SCENIC BEAUTY
You will not believe what your eyes will see! Beautiful beaches, lakes, rivers, lagoons, waterfalls, highlands, virgin forests, sacred rock formations, and sahelian bush and desert.

SAFETY
Ghana is also one of the safest countries in Africa. While crime may be rampant in some other tourism destinations in Africa, it is an uncommon occurrence in Ghana, and visitors rarely have any problems regardless of where they travel. Guns are illegal in Ghana, so gun violence is almost nonexistent.
The sense of being Ghanaian first is strong in Ghana, which gives our country a sense of identity unique to many countries in Africa. There are very few instances of inter-tribal or religious conflicts that plague so many of our neighbors.

STABLE DEMOCRACY
We have a history of a stable democracy. Unnoticed in much of the world was our 2008 Presidential election, which was so incredibly close - and botched in one constituency. It was like the American election dispute of Bush v. Gore. Emotions were high as the lone constituency of Tain had a re-vote - and handed the Presidency to the opposition. The international media barely noticed because all this was done peacefully and in an orderly fashion with no violence or public disturbances that would have occurred elsewhere is such a situation.

ENGLISH IS SPOKEN HERE
In all of West Africa, there are only five English-speaking countries: Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. Of these five, if you wish a safe country, stable democracy, and tourism infrastructure, then Ghana is clearly the place to travel.

TRAVEL WHERE YOU ARE LOVED
The most recent Pew Research Center survey in Ghana shows that Ghanaians love America as much as Americans do. But then, we are a people that love everybody.

YES, AND WILDLIFE TOO!
Yes, you have the ability to visit wildlife in Ghana. But please realize that we are not the destination of choice for a big-time safari adventure.
There are no giraffes or zebras or leopards living anywhere in Ghana. Lions exist here, but you would never see one. However this lack of predators makes for a unique experience because you can safari on foot in Ghana!
Elephants and hippos are in Ghana, but require a long drive (2 days minimum) to access the different wildlife parks where these animals are located. These animals are best seen during the dry season, as abundant water allows the wildlife to disburse widely.
More accessible are the many birds and butterflies, as well as monkey sanctuaries, crocodile ponds, and parks with antelope and baboons. Marine turtles can be found nesting on some beaches (Oct-Dec) and whales sighted at the correct season.

TOURISM POLICIES
Consider the tourism policies of your destination. For example, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority of Tanzania had a goal of attracting 1 million visitors to Ngorongoro National Park in 2010. This is an incredible number of visitors, making humans one of the most populous animals of the Ngorongoro

NATIONAL PARK!
Then there is the example of Botswana, which has taken the opposite approach. By relying on a small number of well-paying visitors, Botswana has a very successful implementation. But this has raised the cost of a holiday in Botswana to a level that most people cannot afford.

We feel that Ghana has found a sustainable balance between these two extremes. Ghana Miss Tourism Ghana Tourism in ghana Konekt Ghana Tourism Club GHANA Tourism Es**rt GHANA Tourism Authority, eastern Region #VISITGHANA #Tourism #GHANA Tourism Tourism Africa

Kakum National Park
The park was established in 1932 and officially opened to the public in 1994. The 357km2 national park is comprised of mostly undisturbed virgin rainforest. Excellent walking tours (and a canopy walkway) through the forest provide the opportunity to see much of Ghana’s indigenous plant life, as well as rare butterflies, birds and game (that could include the extraordinary bongo and forest elephant). Highlights include:

Kakum National Park Visitor Centre: The Kakum National Park Visitor Centre (KNPVC), managed by Ghana Heritage Conservation Trust (GHCT) built with funding from USAID and technical support by Conservation International (Cl) is located on a 512-acre land adjacent to the Kakum National Park. The Centre has facilities that promote conservation education and awareness.

Rainforest Café: Kakum Rainforest Café encourages conservation efforts at the Park by supporting local farmers through the purchase of fresh produce while providing a relaxing location for visitors to enjoy a fine meal and refreshing drinks.

Hidden Connections: The "Hidden Connection" exhibit interprets the complexities which underlie tropical rainforest diversity, the interdependencies among species, and the numerous biological connections which make the rain forest a "web of life '. It also highlights the cultural connections that the people of southern Ghana have with the natural world that make them part of this "web". At least forty-five minutes should be planned for visitors to experience the exhibit as it prepares them to enter the rainforest and to notice more of the scents, sights and sounds unique to the forest environment while increasing levels of enjoyment and conservation education.

The Afafranto Campsite: This campsite is located 200 meters from the Kakum Visitors Centre. The Afafranto campsite is ideally positioned for visitors wanting an easily accessible forest camping experience.

Visitors who want to visit this site must bring along their own tents, mosquito nets, sleeping pads and/or cots for use at the campsite. It will soon be possible to rent them from the Visitor Centre.

Sun bird Trail: Visitors with a special interest in birds now have a new trail that is specially developed to incorporate three ecosystems: the rainforest, the secondary forest and a pond environment. Visitors can use this trail to search for more than 400 bird species found on the Kakum bird checklist. The departure times for bird watching can be specified when making a booking for the trails and guides.

Canopy Walkway: The Kakum Canopy Walkway, Africa's first and only rainforest walkway, is composed of 350 meters of suspended bridge and six tree platforms that reach the height of 30 meters above the forest floor. From the treetops, visitors experience a unique and spectacular view of the rainforest ecosystem and have the opportunity to see flora and fauna, which could never be viewed from the ground. Hundreds of species of butterflies and birds can be viewed from the Walkway early in the morning and if visitors are lucky, they may catch a glimpse of the Spot-nose, Campbell's and Columbus monkeys. DID YOU KNOW...... Paga in the northern part of Ghana is noted for its sacred pond, which is a sanctuary for crocodiles. The crocodiles are said to be totems for the people of Kassena, who reside in Paga and the surrounding communities. It is believed that each native of Paga has a corresponding crocodile representing each person's soul. Local tradition has it that there have been actual instances when deaths of important personalities in the community coincided with that of some crocodiles. The reptiles are normally enticed out of the pond by the whistling of the caretaker and the brandishing of a fowl, which the crocodiles quickly sn**ch with their snouts. If you are courageous, you can sit on, or hold the beast's tail for a good camera pose. The caretaker charges a fee for the fowl and basic interpretation. DID YOU KNOW?... Wli Waterfalls, in the Volta Region of Ghana cascades from a height of 60-80 meters, and is the highest falls in West Africa/Accra. The hills mark the border between Ghana and neighboring Togo. A walk through the forest of the Agumatsa wildlife sanctuary offers a chance to see a large colony of fruit bats, butterflies, birds, monkeys and baboons. To get there one has to walk through the Rain Forest on a small footpath crossing 9 smaller streams in the process. A large colony of bats can be seen clinging to the cliffs and flying in the sky. The ecotour project is working with local communities to preserve the area, and limit the hunting of these rare bats. The money from the ecotourism project provides jobs for many of the hunters offering an alternative means of income to maintain their livelihood. At the same time the project gives the local community the incentive to preserve and enforce rules that protect the wildlife and natural environment. Tourism Miss Tourism Ghana Tourism In Ghana Int.
