President John Dramani Mahama has banned all ministers, CEOs and public officials from participating, sponsoring, endorsing or accepting privately organized award schemes, and he says no exceptions apply unless the Office of the President grants express permission.
The directive came as part of efforts to protect the integrity of public office, and it targets award schemes that spring up overnight with little credibility. Government says many of these institutions trade on hype, and they distract appointees from the real work of serving Ghanaians

Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo has responded to backlash after winning the Best Regional Minister award at the 6th Ghana Ministers of State Excellence Awards on June 6 at Labadi Beach Hotel.
The award recognized her work in the Greater Accra Region, particularly in areas such as sanitation, chieftaincy disputes, street lighting, and boundary issues.
However, the award has sparked criticism online with Ghanaians questioning the timing as Accra still faces serious flooding problems. On social media, some users labeled her President Mahama’s worst appointee, while others have alleged that she paid GHC50,000 to secure the award.
In response, Ocloo has demanded proof from her accusers and also highlighted proactive measures she has taken to address flooding and explained her coordination efforts during the rains, stressing that illegal construction in waterways is the reason behind flooding in the region.

Ghanaians have reacted angrily after Bishop Daniel Obinim announced that his wife, Florence Obinim, should not be part of his funeral arrangement if he dies before her.
In a video circulating on social media, the founder of God’s Way International Church told his congregation that when he dies, his children and church members should take charge of his burial. He stated that his wife, Florence Obinim, would not be involved.
Many Ghanaians noted that Florence has stood by her husband for years through multiple controversies, criticism, and public embarrassment. Despite the challenges, she has remained loyal and consistently defended him whenever scandals arose.
The development has triggered further conversations about marriage and appreciation. Several commenters on social media say moments like this make women question marriage, as they see women making sacrifices for their families only to end up hurt or unappreciated.

FIFA has officially banned vuvuzelas, air horns, whistles, and other excessively loud noise-making devices from all 2026 World Cup stadia in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
The initiative comes as FIFA moves to protect match quality and broadcast standards. The governing body says vuvuzelas create a constant “monotonous droning sound, often likened to a swarm of bees” that makes on-field communication difficult for players and disrupts TV commentary.
Under the new rules, FIFA’s stadium code of conduct prohibits vuvuzelas, whistles, air horns, and other excessively loud noise-making devices, as well as laser beams and laser pointers. The code also states that body paint and body tattoos do not count as clothing, reusable water bottles are not allowed for safety reasons, and any spectator who violates these regulations can be refused entry or removed from the stadium.
The expanded 48-team tournament will run from June 11 to July 19, 2026, with Mexico set to face South Africa in the opening match.

Joana Quaye, ex-wife of Ghanaian millionaire Richard Nii Armah Quaye, has told a divorce court she does not want her children in the custody of Mona “Hajia4Reall” Montrage. In court yesterday, Joana argued that Hajia4Reall would be a bad influence on the children, stating past social media livestreams and videos where the kids appeared with her. The custody matter remains before the court as both parties continue divorce proceedings.
Joana’s motion comes as the US Department of Homeland Security listed Hajia4Reall and 31 other Ghanaians under “Arrested for Worst of Worst” offences. According to US authorities, those named are linked to serious crimes including fra*d, hom*cide, s*xual assault and human trafficking.
ICE stated that individuals listed will face deportation proceedings, while anyone already deported cannot re-enter the US.
Legal experts note the development may be cited in Joana’s custody case as she argues the children’s welfare should take priority.
