"Babies who are breastfed exclusively for six months are healthier and achieve optimal growth and development", said the UNICEF Representative at the Annual General Meeting of the Paediatric Society of Ghana.
In #Ghana, only 43 % of children benefit from their mothers’ breast milk in their first six months of life. Yet, it is the most precious gift women can give to their newborns. Breastfeeding benefits the family, the community and the entire nation.
Together, we can promote and enable breastfeeding at home, in health facilities and at the workplace, to give children the best start in life.

Today, the First Lady, H.E. Rebecca Akufo-Addo launched Ghana’s “Start Right, Feed Right – from birth to two years” campaign – led by the Ministry of Health, Ghana and the Ghana Health Service with support from UNICEF and World Health Organization (WHO).
The campaign is aimed at supporting mothers, families, communities and businesses to understand and reap the benefits of breastfeeding.
It is also aimed at reducing malnutrition during the first 1000 days of a child’s life – which can hinder their overall growth and health.

Water crisis in Battor Nyatikpo and Kanuwloe in the North tongu district of Volta, Ghana. No source of good water leaving the communities with the alternative of sharing the same water with cattle. My interaction with some pupils indicated that, during dry seasons, they are always compelled to abandon school in search of water which greatly affects their studies. My interaction with some teachers indicated that, dry seasons are more of a holiday for schools in the area. Residents in the area said they have to travel hundred of miles to get water which is affecting their economic and social activities. The water from the only dam is unwholesome for consumption but the story has been the same with no major measures being put in place to minimize the effects of the water scarcity. On behalf of the residents of the area, I am therefore calling on NGOs and other related organizations to come to their aid.
