[12/11/13]   Centre for Trade and Development (CETAD) is a distinguished centre of excellence for international research on trade and development. We seek to bring out the fundamental linkages between trade and economic development.
We offer advisory services tofirms and governments to take advantage of preferential trade regime granted LDCs by Advanced countries by organizing workshops, training seminars and disseminating policy briefs. We are of strong conviction entrepreneurs and firms are the agent of change for the realisation of LDC’s dream of self-reliance and sustained economic growth.
We also develop global market links for local industries.CETAD pays particular attention to the impact of international and domestic economic policies on growth of firms and poverty reduction in LDCs. Specifically, to determine the extent to which trade policies adopted affect ordinary citizens and contribute to reduction in poverty.
Our principal focus is
Research and Analysis.This involves research and management of trade information and market intelligence. An assessment of the impact of international and domestic trade and developmental policies on economic performance, both at macro and firm level. To determine the impact of integration arrangement and trade policies on ordinary tradersproducers and consumers.
Advisory Service. Based on impact assessment, offer advisory services in collaboration with policy-makers and stakeholders in devising appropriate coping strategies to mitigate adverse effects from globalisation on firms, states and households. We provide special advisory services for countries in trade negotiation in world trade policy at multilateral and regional level.
Product and Marketing Development. This primarily entails a focus on improving product quality in line with international standards and regulatory measures such technical barriers to trade and sanitary and phytosanitary measures.CETAD attention will be harnessing and developing entrepreneurs and promoting firms competiveness in the global market.Thus, enhancing market access.
Training and Capacity Development. This entails building the institutional capacity of firms and states through training, seminars, workshops and technical assistance. We also organize study and market tours for all firms and states.
Policy Dissemination Issuing policy briefs and engaging in policy debates. Organizing and participating in national and regional fora to facilitate dialogue and consensus building.
Communication Services. Advising foreign and local firms investing in Africa, in identifying constraints they likely to face, the right stakeholders to meet. Help companies adopt the right communication strategies. Dialogue with journalists and editors to ensure that a firms position and profile is accurately reflected in the media
