There was beautiful fireworks displays on Monday in Japan. The surprise displays were held simultaneously at secret locations nationwide for 5 minutes to avoid people gathering.

As many countries live through the coronavirus pandemic with its accompanying restrictions, fireworks makers hoped to raise the spirit of residents in Japan.

Young firework professionals planned the coordinated pyrotechnics to send people a message of hope and to cheer them up as they struggle with the novel coronavirus crisis.

日本大使館は,UNICEFシエラレオネを通じ,シエラレオネにおける栄養失調の改善に協力しています。

The Embassy of Japan is cooperating to tackle the current challenge of malnutrition in Sierra Leone through UNICEF.

https://www.facebook.com/unicefsierraleone/posts/3431043180243762

The Government of Japan has committed a new contribution of USD 254,545 to improve the coverage of critical Severe and Acute Malnutrition treatment services and thereby reduce child mortality in #SierraLeone.

This commitment was formalised at a time when the Governments of both countries and UNICEF, are acknowledging the successful implementation of the project “Addressing critical gaps in the treatment of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) in four high burden districts”, which Japan funded to the tune of US$ 1.5 million in 2019. The project saw more than 9,126 under five children with severe acute malnutrition, receive life-saving treatment with Ready-to-use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) and Therapeutic Milk.

Under the new grant, UNICEF and the Government of Sierra Leone will implement a project “Sustaining Life-Saving Services for the treatment of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) in Bo district”. This will see the uninterrupted delivery of critical SAM treatment services in health facilities of Bo, one of the districts with a high burden of malnutrition. This support is particularly important to respond to the #COVID19 pandemic, which could affect the nutrition status of vulnerable children.

【Japanese green teas】
A cup of tea soothes when we are tired and takes the edge off when we feel restless. There are many kinds of green tea in Japan, and each has a calming and healing effect. Each type has its optimum water temperature for brewing the perfect cup. But whatever the type, Japanese green tea is meant to be enjoyed on its own without sugar, milk, lemon, or honey. Follow the steps here for brewing the perfect cup, and take a moment to relax and appreciate the subtle taste and aroma of its liquor.
Gyokuro is the finest of Japanese teas, with complex layers of sweetness and umami. The leaves of its well fertilized bushes are shaded from sunlight before harvest, and only new leaves are picked, to be processed immediately. As gyokuro is high in caffeine, brew with water well below the boiling point at about 65°C. Sip a small amount at a time, rolling it on the tongue before swallowing. For an afternoon treat, serve with sweets that do not overwhelm the tea’s delicate profile, such as mild nerigashi confections made with rice flour and bean paste.

【Omuraisu - Rice in an Egg Wrapping】
Omuraisu is best eaten with a spoon. When the spoon cuts through the fluffy yellow egg, some hot, ketchup-dyed rice spills out. There's a dollop of tomato ketchup on top of the egg, too, and you can use the spoon to spread it around. Omuraisu is a very common dish in Japan. People think of it as a western dish adapted to Japanese tastes, because it includes omelet and the rice is flavored with tomato ketchup. The word omuraisu comes from "omelet and rice," as you may have guessed.

Omelet, pilaf and other dishes from abroad came to Japan in the late 1800s. The Japanese faithfully followed some Western recipes, and adapted others to their own tastes. Before long, these variations began spreading nationwide. Most experts agree that omuraisu was first served in 1902, at a Western-style restaurant called Renga-tei in Tokyo's Ginza district. The owner is said to have got the idea from an ancient recipe for chakin-zushi (sushi rice wrapped in a thin sheet of fried egg).

Omuraisu remains as popular as ever. It is served everywhere, from Western-style restaurants and mom-and-pop eateries to coffee shops. It is often eaten at home, too, because most kitchens have all of the ingredients on hand and it's easy to make.
