Akuapem North MP, Samuel Awuku, has warned Parliament that rising youth unemployment is emerging as a major national security concern, stressing that many young people are being forced to pursue multiple degrees and qualifications because of the lack of jobs.

According to the MP, graduates often find themselves compelled to obtain additional certificates in the hope of improving their chances of employment, while several government interventions have yet to produce the expected outcomes.

Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan will make history in August as the first African referee to officiate a major UEFA final after being appointed to oversee the UEFA Super Cup clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa in Salzburg, Austria.

The 34-year-old’s appointment comes months after he was denied entry into the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Widely regarded as one of Africa’s finest officials, Artan was named CAF Men’s Referee of the Year in 2025 and previously handled the CAF Champions League final.
