A community engagement for the Akwamu people was held at New Akrade in the Eastern Region to create awareness on the Tema-Mpakadan railway project and to also give them an update, about the status of the project. The community engagement was at the request of Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, to give an update of the project to his people. AFCONS Infrastructure our contractors and Team Engineering our consultants, did a presentation for the Akwamu people to make them understand the magnitude of the project and the benefits of it to the community.

Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III,the Omanhene of Akwamu and the Chairperson for the program, pleaded with government to pay all outstanding compensation due people, for peace to prevail.

The Ag. CEO of GRDA, Mr. Yaw Owusu, his management team and some staff members were in attendance. Mr. Owusu told the people of Akwamu that the completion date of the Tema-Mpakadan railway project is set for March 2022. He also reiterated that GRDA is working with our Ministry to ensure that, with the collaborative effort of Lands Commission, they are working expeditiously to make sure that project affected persons are fully paid every compensation due them.

The Hon. Deputy Minister of Railways, Mr. Kwaku Asante Boateng also asked the people of Akwamu to remain calm as government is taking steps to address all of their concerns. The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Seth Acheampong, the Hon. MP for Asuogyaman, Mr. Thomas Nyarko Ampem and the DCE for the Asuogyaman Assembly, Mr. Samuel Kwame Agyekum were also present to support the President’s initiative of revamping the railway sector.

The Ag. CEO Mr. Yaw Owusu over the weekend stated that “the few of us who chose to develop on railway lands are holding all of us to ransom because the project has stalled and unless we clear these developments, the benefits of a modern railway transportation system as envisioned by President will be elusive”. This was during media engagements to Kingdom Fm, Angel Fm, Hello Fm and a few others whiles in Kumasi to let the people know that, the heart of the city which is Adum, is where the train is coming to, so it’s about time encroachers started getting their acts together to move.
The CEO was in Kumasi with his team from the Corporate Affairs Unit, the Health and Safety Unit and the Estate Unit to also have a community engagement with encroachers in Adum who are sitting on the Railway Right of Way. This was to create awareness that the Railway project is starting soon, and there will be a need to demolish structures to make that happen. It was also to educate them that lands were giving out to people on leases to build temporary structures so that when there was a need to take it back, it wouldn’t hurt anybody and not permanent ones. We reiterated that anybody within our right of way will be affected.
The President in September 2020 cut a sod to commence the Kumasi-Kaase railway project, which is part of the Western Line and as part of his vision to revamp the railway sector.
A courtesy call was also paid to Chief of Kaase, Nana Mensah Bonsu I, and the Asokwa Hene, Nana Fe-Baamoah II, whose land our railway construction passes through, and to also seek their indulgence to speak to their Assembly men and their community, especially those who have encroached the railway right of way to start evacuating our lands because the railway project will be starting soon.

64 years ago the flag of the Union Jack came tumbling down and the new nation of Ghana's Flag was hoisted high. It was the dawn of the Black Star nation to take control of its own destiny and steer Ghana to Freedom from the shackles of Colonialism and exploitation. And that's where we are today. Kudos to our forefathers who made this Anniversary possible. It's up to you and I to carry the torch to navigate Ghana to greater Freedom and Prosperity. Ghana needs each of us to contribute our quota and rededicate our efforts to make this possible. On behalf of the Management and Staff of GRDA, I wish each of you Happy 64th Independence Anniversary. Deputy CEO

This is just a short video to show you how railway lines are laid. Great job to the hardworking men on the grounds making things work.

22/09/2020

The team from their 3 days working trip, went through Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana to see the progress of work, and whiles there we saw railway lines being laid before sleepers and ballast on the viaduct at Eshiem on the Western Line Project. The Western Line project is a double standard guage line that is now going all the way to Huni Valley. It was a beautiful sight, seeing railway workers working tirelessly to make such a dream come true. It makes us at GRDA happy knowing that in a few years, goods and passenger trains will start using this route and bring development to cities and towns across Ghana.
