Mistakes We as Africans make during Visa application:
The general belief out there is that you require to build up your “travel resume”, just the way you will build up your “professional resume” in order to get visa from countries like
United States,
Schengen countries (Italy, France, Germany etc) and
United Kingdom, while this holds water for the earlier mentioned countries or group of countries, it is not entirely correct for the United Kingdom.

1. Not Prepared for the Interview

Preparing for interview can better equip and give you confidence in the interview. Researching and preparing well with for commonly asked questions and their correct answers will help a great deal in the interview.

2. Incomplete and Untruthful Information

This is very important as any incomplete/false information can lead to delay. False information can predict your future ability to apply for US visa. It may also cause legal actions against you.

3. Incomplete Documentation

All required documents must be carried along with complete and authentic information. Bringing and keeping your documentation in an organized way can leave a positive impression on the interview officer.

4. Not Carrying Appropriate Fee

The US consulate has strict payment methods. Make sure you are aware of the method and the exact amount of the fee. For example, US consulates use bank drafts for visa application and visa issuance fee and not cash.

5. Unnecessary Extra Information

Do not give information which you were not asked. People try to be over confident and over smart give out more detailed answers than is needed which may lead to additional related questions which may work against you.

For example: Question: Why do you want to go to the US? Wrong Answer: I want to see how USA is and if I like it I want to stay back with my son. Preferred Answer: For tourism purpose and/or to spend some quality time with my son/daughter.

6. Inconsistent Information

Difference in the information you provide in the documentation and what you say during the interview can go against your case.

7. Arguing with the Consulate Officer

Never argue with the consulate officer. If you want information ask in a polite manner.

8. Having Poor Communication

Poor communication affect cases in a negative way. If you’re not good in English, you should request for an interpreter.

9. Talking too much

You are the one being interviewed and not the interviewer. So, keep your answers brief and to the point. Speak only when you need to.

10. Appearing to be Nervous

Be confident because this can bring positive results. Especially, in cases where a consulate officer has to rely on limited information provided by you. Their decision is influenced by the way you react to questions, your body language, and how true your answers are.

Further to the news that six countries are accusing Qatar of supporting terrorism, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Bahrain have cut all diplomatic ties with Qatar and suspended air, sea, and land routes to Qatar.

Hence, Emirates Airlines, Etihad Airways and Flydubai have cancelled all their flights to and from Qatar until further notice.

For passengers who already have tickets on these airlines to Qatar, the airlines are trying to make alternative arrangements for them where possible.

Following a hijacking on the off-ramp approaching OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg late yesterday in which the driver of a vehicle transporting a group of businessmen to the airport was shot and killed it is anticipated that additional security measures in and around the airport may cause delays to travelers.
It is unclear if the vehicle in question or it’s occupants were specifically targeted or if they were a random target of opportunity as the occupants were later abandoned after their possessions were stolen.
The risk of hijacking in and around South Africa’s major centres remains high, and you are urged to remain vigilant on the roads while maintaining a safe following distance allowing you a way out in the event that something happens up ahead. Avoid being boxed in and do not stop if confronted unless absolutely unavoidable and if not doing so is a clear threat to your life or safety. In the event that you are confronted with armed hijackers comply with their instructions and if at all possible get out of and leave the vehicle before they take control of it. Such situations are volatile and each one is different so rely on your instinct to guide you to the safest course of action while being as compliant and non-confrontational as possible.
If you do manage to get out of the vehicle move around the back and away from it staying low and keeping your vehicle between you and the hijackers while seeking cover behind and between other vehicles or off the road. In all situations, avoid any action which could further jeopardize your safety.
You are advised when travelling out of South Africa or Johannesburg through OR Tambo International Airport to allow sufficient time for delays that additional security measures may cause.

Arik Air Workers Shut Down Operations
We have received the information regarding the above situation which may result in traveller safety risks or disrupt your travel plans.

Please be informed that effective March 24, 2017 and until further notice, U.S. Authorities have
imposed enhanced aviation security enhancements requiring any device larger than a cell phone to
be placed in checked baggage at 10 selected airports worldwide that offer direct flights to the United
States.
The banned devices include laptops, tablets, e-readers, cameras, portable DVD players, and any
electronic game bigger than a smartphone.
The affected airports include:
 Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, Jordan;
 Cairo International Airport in Cairo, Egypt;
 Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, Turkey;
 King Abdul-Aziz International Airport in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia;
 King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia;
 Kuwait International Airport in Farwaniya, Kuwait;
 Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca, Morocco;
 Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar;
 Dubai International Airport in Dubai, UAE; and
 Abu Dhabi International Airport in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Notes:
 TSA Security requirements are subject to change as it correlates to the threat assessment.
Therefore, the list of airports may change over time.
 Only US-bound flights will be affected; passengers on flights from the US to the 10 airports in
question can carry devices as normal.
 The new restrictions will apply to all passengers, regardless of citizenship.
Travel security recommendations:
 Comply with any lawful instruction given by airport authorities, including relinquishing your
laptop or removing the battery back if directed to do so.
 If there is no business need to fly with the restricted devices, keep the item(s) secured at
home or the office.
 If you must travel with a company issued laptop/ ipad, fully power down the device to fully
enable encryption before placing it into checked baggage.
 Recommend placing any checked device into a hard-sided suitcase. If none available,
surround your device with soft items such as clothes to act as cushion.
 Lock your checked baggage with an approved safety lock, per your country’s local
requirement.
