Commercial property insurance protects your company’s physical assets from fire, explosions, burst pipes, storms, theft and vandalism. Earthquakes and floods typically aren’t covered by commercial property insurance, unless those perils are added to the policy.

How much does commercial property insurance cost?
Determining how much you’ll pay for commercial property insurance largely depends on the value of all of your business assets, including your building. Other factors that determine your premium are based on risk, including:

Location. Is the area prone to storms and other natural disasters?
Construction. Is your building constructed with fireproof materials? Does it have new or upgraded electrical wiring, plumbing and HVAC?
Occupancy. What is your industry? A realtor’s office generally carries less risk than a restaurant or repair shop.
Fire and theft protection. How far is the nearest fire hydrant and fire station? Does your business have a fire alarm and/or sprinkler system? How about a security system?

COMPREHENSIVE COVER
This is the widest cover. The policy covers:
The benefits applicable under the Third Party Fire & Theft Policy PLUS

Repair cost/ or the sum insured for accidental loss of or damage to the insured vehicle arising out of:

Accidental collusion or overturning, etc.

Flood, storm, earthquake, strike, riot, civil commotion, malicious acts, etc.

Refund of reasonable towing cost.

Replacement cost of windscreen if accidentally damaged, broken or shattered.

Replacement cost or any tyre damaged and rendered unusable as a result of an accident provided the tyre was not worn out or rethreaded prior to the accident.

Limited amount for Third Party Property damage (currently GHC 2000.00). Higher limits can be obtained by paying an additional premium.

THIRD PARTY FIRE & THEFT POLICY

Cost of repair/ or compensation to the policy holder if insured vehicle is:

Damaged either during attempted theft or whilst it is stolen.

Stolen and not recovered.

Payments of the sum insured for the loss of or damage to permanently fitted car radio/cassette, compact disk, audio speakers.

It covers:




Unlimited monetary compensation for the insured’s legal liability for death of or bodily injury sustained by any of the following as a result of the use of the insured vehicle:

Pedestrians;

Fare paying passengers in commercial vehicles

Member(s) of the insured’s household

Gratuitous passengers

Limited compensation for damage to property belonging to someone other than the insured or member of his/her household.

The current limit is GHC 2000 Higher limits can be obtained by paying an additional premium.

Legal costs and expenses incurred with the written consent of the insurers in defending court proceedings from an event for which cover is provided.

Basic first aid cost/ emergency medical expenses for accident victims as occupants of the insured vehicle.

Limited Personal Accident protection for the insured/driver in control of the vehicle/mate (commercial vehicles). Currently maximum amount paid is GHC 2000

(A). BURGLARY INSURANCE
It covers properties stolen from ones premises through forcible and violent entry. It also covers damage to private property or the premises as a result of the burglary.

There are two separate covers; Private Residence Cover and Business Premises Cover

Under the Private Residence Cover, household goods and personal effects may be insured.

The Business Premises Policy insures merchandise, office equipment, etc. The insurance may not prevent your home or your business premises from being burgled, but should it occur, then the policy will reimburse you for the
financial loss that you would otherwise have incurred.

In the event of the insured perils causing loss or damage to the insured property, PRIORITY will offer monetary compensation up to the sum insured to the policy holder.

(B). GOODS – IN- TRANSIT
We depend to a great extent on the carriage of goods by road and this form of cover is an important aspect of commercial and industrial activities. As transport owner or Haulage Company how do you protect your liability for goods you carry for the public or for your own company.
