🌱 Exciting news from A Rocha Ghana!

Since 2023, we’ve empowered 373 farmers across 26 communities in the Atewa Range through the Econobio II Project. By distributing 59,050 seedlings, we’re diversifying incomes and boosting biodiversity!

A highlight of our initiative is promoting Aframomum (Fom Wisa), a high-value spice that helps farmers reduce reliance on forest resources.

We’ve also inaugurated two storage facilities in Odumase and Akyem Pabi to help farmers preserve their produce and enhance market value.

Looking ahead, we’re planning to establish a processing facility to turn raw Aframomum into valuable products like powder and paste, creating jobs and increasing economic benefits for the community. Together, we’re driving sustainable livelihoods and conservation! 🌍💚

Today is Earth Day 🌍

A gentle reminder that nature sustains us in ways we often take for granted, from the air we breathe to the ecosystems that support our livelihoods. Protecting the Earth is, ultimately, about protecting our shared future.

This year’s theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” reflects a simple truth that goes beyond political cycles: environmental stewardship does not rest with a single institution or election. It is carried forward every day by communities, educators, workers, innovators, and families who understand that caring for the places they live and love is both a responsibility and a long-term investment.

Environmental progress is real, resilient, and ongoing because people continue to show up and take action in their own spaces.

This is our power. This is our planet. 🌱

A Rocha Ghana will be attending Shea 2026: Beyond Borders, the 18th Annual Conference of the Global Shea Alliance, taking place in Accra from April 27 to April 29. The conference brings together stakeholders from across the global shea value chain to explore market trends, sustainability, innovation, and partnerships shaping the future of the industry.

At A Rocha Ghana, we continue to work with and through the shea industry to protect and restore shea parklands. We believe the shea tree must be seen as more than just a tree. It is a vital safety net for the thousands of women collectors we work with, supporting household incomes, strengthening local economies, and sustaining a centuries-old heritage.
