The African Union has voted a young and vibrant South African trade law expert, Mr. Wamkele Mene, 42 years old to serve as the first Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat based in Accra, Ghana.

After three finalists were shortlisted by the Selection Committee, Wamkele Mene beats a stiff competition from Cecilia Akintomide from Nigeria and Faustin Luanga from the Democratic Republic of Congo by votes to head the Continental Secretariat.
