Project Fem Tide

I love making art. But Fem Tide is in the deep end of art that I love and value but have zero experience or expertise in. We've got 3 soldering irons hooked up. Miles of cables wrapped in various bundles. Strange connectors at 4 or 5 different junctions on each figure. And a control panel designed by my husband and a friend will crown each one. I have become a foot soldier in the process, following directions and trusting in my husband's vision. It going to be glorious!

This week has been metalwork intensive but somehow I don't have any pictures. We've been working on the unglamorous task of making the pieces fit together and preparing for wiring. In other words I've been making lots of notches and holes. So much drilling. But we did add some exciting pieces to the garage that is starting to look like an actual shop. I've also included a photo of my most recent playa dust face. It turned out strange and beautiful.

We've been growing a little garden this week. Just 3 more flower crown lamps to go. We also stood up a few figures to get a feel for the piece in space. It's going to be strange and beautiful. Big thanks to Lisa Bell and Steve Aldridge who put in some late night hours with us last night.

Where it all started...

Flaming Lotus Girls is taking a new project to Burning Man this year. Haven is intended to provide a safe place to connect, to rest, and to be inspired. They have 3 more days to raise the funds needed to bring big fire art to the dust. Go check it out!

Just 4 Days Left...

This project is about community. It represents community. It is helping me build community in my new home. It is connecting me to my community spread out across the country. I am so grateful for all the connections I have been able to make and renew through this work. Just a few more weeks and we will be installing Fem Tide out in the dust.
