The Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, a protege of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and two-time presidential candidate who led the Civil Rights Movement for decades after the revered leader’s assassination, died Tuesday. He was 84. His daughter, Santita Jackson, confirmed that Jackson died at home, surrounded by family.

We cannot afford shallow conversations.

On February 23, Sankofa Literary & Empowerment Group is convening scholars and practitioners to examine Du Bois not as historical tribute — but as an intellectual framework for understanding power, education, and democratic responsibility in our current moment.

Our panel includes:

• Abraham Funchess — Executive Director, Waterloo Human Rights Commission
• Negus Rudison-Imhotep, Ph.D. — Scholar of Black memory and intellectual tradition
• Eric Johnson, Ph.D. — Senior Associate & Chief Consultant at CTAC, education strategist and systems leader

This discussion is especially relevant for:
Educators. Administrators. Faculty. Policy professionals. Nonprofit leaders. Community organizers.
