Oxford Sandy and Black Pig Group obtains Charity Status

This year we celebrate our 10 year anniversary and to top that mile stone off, after many months of hard work we received confirmation this morning from the UK Charities Commission that we are now a registered Charity.

A huge achievement for us, that would not have been possible if it wasn’t for our many many supporters, so our thanks go out to each and everyone of them.

This official move, will allow us to do so much more in promoting and conserving the Oxford Sandy and Black Pig, Inspiring others whilst enabling us to provide education and material to further our supporters knowledge whilst strengthening the breed.

If you want to find out more about what we do and the breed, have a visit to our website

Conservation Pigs Ltd. provide specialist habitat management services through the use of pigs. We use pedigree British Saddleback Pigs @pigconservation

Conservation Pigs was established in 2012 to improve the usage of pigs as a conservation tool. Many projects would benefit from the usage of pigs, as part of restoration and management works, but this is inaccessible due to the costs required in infrastructure, training and labour as well as the commitment required once the livestock is in place. It was established by Jack Flusk and Katie Swift, b

Love this photo of our gilts!

We would like to take this opportunity to remind members RBST is still here for both individuals and their animals. We are fully operational, albeit through slightly different channels. Our conservation efforts remain underway and the wellbeing of our members and staff remains our utmost priority alongside the welfare of the breeds we seek to protect.

However, in light of the current situation RBST has decided to cancel the Spring Support Group meeting due to be held at Stoneleigh on Saturday 4th April. The safety and wellbeing of all our staff, members and volunteers is our main concern.

Support Group officers have been contacted with additional information and have been asked to circulate it amongst group members and volunteers.

In light of current guidance regarding the Coronavirus RBST has also decided to cancel this year’s Young Shepherds competition as a number of shows have already cancelled, the safety and wellbeing of our the competitors, members and volunteers is our main concern.

As of Thursday 19th March head office will be staffed with a reduced staff on a Tuesday and Thursdays. All staff will be contactable via email and we are taking steps to provide availability by phone where possible, visit the RBST website for their contact details https://www.rbst.org.uk/staff

The Woodland Trust

HS2 will shoot a poisoned arrow through the heart of our ancient woods and their wildlife. Today’s announcement shows that our expert opinion, that of other NGOs, and the concerns of the public worried about the destruction of the irreplaceable habitat, has been utterly disregarded.

Some 61 ancient woods along the HS2 route are earmarked for total or partial destruction while a further 47 will suffer damage from noise, vibration, light and pollution.

Adam Cormack, Head of Campaigning, said: “Future generations won’t forget the disregard shown for the environmental costs of HS2, especially at a time when recognition has never been greater of the need to protect the environment in the face of the climate and nature emergency."

HS2 Ltd did not properly identify all the ancient woodland along the scheme before they designed the route. If this had happened the project could have avoided much of the ancient woodland in its path. Instead ancient woodland has been identified in a piecemeal manner and often long after the designs were finalised, making it much more difficult to save.

We will be reviewing today’s decision and talking to other charities and people affected by HS2 about our response and what happens next https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/press-centre/2020/02/hs2-poison-arrow-for-environment/
