A little summary of what preparing for an upcoming jousting season consists of. New horses need to get jousting under their belts, new jousters need to perfect their technique, and armour and horse equipment needs checking to ensure everything is safe and functioning. What this video doesn't include is the hours of preparation before each joust, and the hours of cleaning up afterwards!

An excellent opportunity to consult with the Dr.
Places are going fast.

⭐️ NEWS!!⭐️

An exciting opportunity to engage with one of the world’s foremost experts on arms and armour, Dr Tobias Capwell, and receive personal instruction and tailored advice on your harness.

We can confirm that our October clinic will be held over the 16th and 17th October and will be on the subject of ‘The Armoured Rider’ - a Mounted Combat workshop with Dominic Sewell and Tobias Capwell.

The Armoured Rider is a one-day workshop (select a day to book), focusing on the practical use of armour in equestrian combat and exercise, intended for riders at beginning and intermediate levels. It is intended to:
- Help the beginner without armour to prepare for the process of acquiring it;
- Assist beginners and intermediates who already have armour to enhance its performance, comfort, and historical accuracy;
- Explore different historical methods for optimising armour for mounted combat, to help students improve their ability and enjoyment.

Programme

Both days of the workshop will involve practical instruction combined with illustrated talks and discussion. Practical elements will include:
- The examination of certain key areas of an armour’s construction and method of wear, especially as they pertain to riding.
- The pursuit of a good interaction between the rider’s armour and the saddle
- ‘The Armour Clinic’, a chance for students with armour to discuss their equipment one-on-one with the instructors, to address technical and aesthetic issues and identify potential upgrades.

The workshop will be held at Historic Equitation (Northants, UK), in the indoor school as well as the outdoor tiltyard (weather permitting).

Instructors

Dominic Sewell is…the owner of Historic Equitation one of the foremost historical equestrian events company in the U.K. He is a horse trainer and riding instructor who has over 20 year’s experience of jousting all over the world at the most prestigious events. A keen enthusiast of medieval martial arts and historical riding techniques he owns stables and a riding facility in East Northants in the UK.

Tobias Capwell is an internationally-renowned jouster and historical European martial arts practitioner, and a founding member of the modern jousting community, with thirty years’ experience studying, building and fighting in armour, both in the saddle and on foot. He is also Curator of Arms and Armour at the Wallace Collection in London, a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, a Freeman of the Armourers Company of London and an author of many books including the Armour of the English Knight series (2015, 2021, 2022); Arms and Armour of the Medieval Joust (2018); and Arms and Armour of the Renaissance Joust (2021). He appears regularly in television and online documentaries, and most recently served as historical advisor on the new feature film The Lost King (2022).

This is an exciting and truly unique opportunity with very limited places each day. Please PM for prices and any questions. We have both participant spaces and observer spaces each day.
