This week, our Senior Instructor Glyn Collins has been down at Ocean VIllage Marina in Southampton with the team at Ocean Youth Trust South. Glyn and the wider Trauma Resus team have donated a live AED, a Zoll training AED, and delivered the training on how to use these life saving devices.

Ocean Youth Trust South is a charity which allows 11-25 years olds to develop life skills through sailing at sea on the vessel, Prolific. The Zoll Training AED will allow the trust, as well as the ship's staff, to maintain their life saving skills through realistic practice. We are delighted to support OYT South and wish them luck on their future endeavours.

It is widely known that the longer the delay in delivering an electric shock to the heart through defibrillation, the lower the chances of successful resuscitation. For every minute that passes without defibrillation, the chances of survival decrease by approximately 7-10%.

Therefore, Trauma Resus calls upon its new and existing customers to consider registering their accessible AEDs with The Circuit; the national defibrillator network provides a national overview of where defibrillators can be found.

By supporting this initiative, you will join a coordinated network of defibrillators to improve the response to out-of-hospital cardiac arrests and increase the chances of saving lives.

For further information and to register your AED with The Circuit visit: https://www.thecircuit.uk/

Trauma Resus can deliver ongoing support through training courses covering BLS, the use of AEDs, and the supply of AEDs to support your needs.

EURIECA® training fully compliant with HSE and GWO requirements - Trauma Resus 08/08/2023

EURIECA® training remains fully compliant with HSE and GWO requirements.

Trauma Resus has been made aware of some observations from the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regarding the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) EFA standard, with references to drowning and the ACOP standard for oil and gas platforms.

We want to reassure our clients with the below message from the Trauma Resus Clinical Governance team:

MEDICAL DIRECTOR FOR TRAUMA RESUS, DR PETER BARRETT, ON EURIECA® TRAINING

"The EURIECA® course maps to Level D of the Royal College of Surgeons Pre Hospital Emergency Medicine Skills (PHEM) Framework and is the most advanced first aid course available in the UK for non-healthcare pre-hospital providers caring for patients as a secondary role. EURIECA® training includes the management of drowning in mandatory Pre-Course E-Learning as well as classroom-based theory and practical scenario-based sessions. In addition, EURIECA® already meets the ACOP standard.

Therefore, we are delighted to confirm that EURIECA® maps across to First Aid at Work standards, fully complies with the HSE and GWO EFA requirements and Trauma Resus clients do not need to action any changes in advanced first aid training."

This is an increasingly important topic in the field of emergency services, as the stress and strain of the job can take a toll on the carers themselves. We must all take the time to recognise signs of burnout and prioritise our well-being.
