Gym Anxiety 😥

It’s my 2nd day working away from the public gyms and you forget how many people are terrified of going to those places

When you join a gym, it’s done online usually and you get the email to confirm and you’re on your own

I forgot when you work in a gym where people have to apply, how many note down their worries and the what ifs

For a lot, walking into a gym is easy, you don’t even think about it and for some, it’s the best part of their day

You don’t even think twice about the ones who have try to join for months, even years now but can’t go through with it

The ones who join yet haven’t stepped a foot in the place and just let the direct debit go out each month

The ones who walked in and their worries actually become reality with people laughing, even recording them…. I’ve seen both of those with clients in the past

The gym is an amazing place we all should be doing for the mental and physical benefits, but for a lot, it’s a million miles away from happening in their own heads as anxiety crushes their goals before they’ve even got started

Lost In Less Than An Hour

People are still chasing a weight loss number in the hopes this number will bring them everything they want health wise

Once I lose ….. or get to ….. then il be happy

But that number isn’t the real goal and you’re chasing something which actually doesn’t truly represent your health

Most will chase that number because they use to be in years ago and felt better in their bodies then

They wore smaller clothes sizes and had more confidence

You don’t need that scale to show a certain number to feel like that and to be healthy again

Set real goals and get a proper plan to get there

Most need support and some sort of education to battle the years of damage diets and slimming clubs have caused

Most need to be more patient and most need help

It’s All About Your Choices

When it comes to fat loss and you getting your results, it’s about you and the daily choices you make

Me and Jones had a go at this the other day and became Drs for the evening

4 case files and every choice we made moved us closer to helping the patient survive or not (amazing for a night in)

Your daily choices with your food, water, steps, sleep won’t kill you, but they’re taking you closer or further away from the fat loss and health goals you want

You can get help to save time and reduce the mistakes most make with their fitness and nutrition, but at the end of the day, it’s 100% on you to follow through and do the work

You Can’t Cheat Your Diet

You can cheat at crazy golf like Jones did here

But when it comes to losing body fat and getting healthy

You can’t cut corners on that diet stuff with your deficit

You can even get by with doing mad stuff in the gym with classes, made up workouts or even just walking to lose weight

However, if you’re nutrition is poor and you’re in maintenance or surplus calories, you’re not losing

People will put so much effort into the gym side then try to cut corners on the nutrition without putting the same effort in

They will go back and re try fads they know don’t last or work long term

They will give bread up again

They will reduce carbs again

Cut sugar out

And it never lasts

Slimming World

I spoke to a lady in class this morning who said slimming world works for her

She just can’t keep going now with work but she will be going back soon before her holiday

If it worked, you could join once, get yourself in a good place with your habits and behaviours around food then continue doing that for the rest of your life

But it’s fad and has cult like qualities to it

What would I know about nutrition though

Do You Lift?

I’ve been in a new gym around 5 weeks and the same myths hang about like the other gyms I’ve worked in

Weights will not make you into some hench lady who’s the size of a vending machine 💪

You know how many lads want to get big and can’t even though they eat more food than you, train with weights more and harder than you and they still struggle

Ladies they won’t make you massive but they’re vital to making you look leaner both in and out of clothes and they will help on your journey to becoming healthier

Do your classes and your cardio, but do those around weights and in 6 months time, your progress will be so much better

Gym Classes Won’t Get You Your Results

This is something a lot of personal trainers won’t say

Especially when you’re in a commercial gym having to teach classes

But ask someone their goals and I bet 99% of the time the classes won’t deliver that

Classes have their place for some

But I’m happy to tell any person who’s ready to go in the gym, that they will 100% speed up their results up if they trained properly with weights and progression in their programs

They could actually do less days and not have to train doing classes every single day, with some even doing back to back classes most of the week

It would be less stress on your joints

It would allow proper recovery because classes do the same movements over and over again, no matter what the name is of that class you’ve done

It’s also why you NEVER see personal trainers doing classes as their main program 👀

I get lifting is a scary thought for a lot but it’s one of the best things you could do for your health and results

Over Complicating Nutrition 🥡

Something common you will see amongst your every day gym class, is a lot of people in there over complicate the nutrition side of things

Words like treat and cheat day get chucked about

No carbs is a common phrase

But when you have a proper chat, it’s very simple to explain how nutrition works and why things like carbs are ok

It’s clear to see a lot have behaviours problems around food and most emotionally eat a lot of the time

Training is amazing, but it’s not until your sort your nutrition that the real results come along to play
