Burnout doesn’t always shout.
Sometimes, it whispers through your everyday life. 😞

Here are some common signs to look out for:
😴 Constant tiredness
🔋 Low energy
❓ Self-doubt
💤 Loss of motivation
😡 Irritability and emotional sensitivity

Burnout is more than just being busy or tired.
It’s your mind and body calling for rest, space, and support.

🌿 You deserve time to breathe, reset, and recover.

Therapy can help you explore what’s behind the overwhelm and begin healing from burnout, with compassion, not pressure.

What pupils really think of a mobile phone ban at their school in Warrington 11/06/2025

📵 Birchwood High School in Warrington has now gone fully phone-free - all students are locking their phones away in Yondr pouches during the school day.

It’s a bold move, and one backed by growing evidence:

✅ Improved academic focus:
A UK study found that banning phones led to improved test scores, especially among lower-achieving students. Another study from Spain reported gains of up to equivalent to 0.6–0.8 years of learning in maths and science.

✅ Better mental health and social interaction:
Less screen time = more time connecting in person. Some schools using Yondr have seen calmer classrooms, fewer peer conflicts, and more positive social dynamics.

✅ Reduced distractions and bullying:
Without phones in pockets, there's less temptation to check messages, scroll social media, or deal with group chats that often fuel anxiety or exclusion.

But of course, it’s not without its challenges. Some raise concerns about:

⚠️ Emergency access
⚠️ Resistance from students
⚠️ Missing opportunities to teach digital responsibility rather than avoid it

💬 What do you think?

Would you support your child’s school going phone-free like this?
Have you seen a change in your child’s mood, focus or behaviour when they’re off their phone?

I’d love to hear your thoughts - especially from local parents and teens. Let’s open up the conversation 👇

Continued learning. Deeper understanding. Better support.

I’ve recently completed Carolyn Spring’s “Trauma and the Body: Dissociation and Somatisation” course, an incredibly powerful training that explores how trauma is held in the body and expressed when words aren't enough.

This training deepened my understanding of the ways people adapt to survive, and how symptoms like chronic pain, dissociation, or shutdown aren’t signs of something "wrong", but signs of what went right, the body doing its best to protect us.

As a trauma-informed therapist, I’m committed to ongoing learning so I can hold space for others in a way that is safe, attuned and grounded in the latest understanding of trauma and the nervous system.

💬 Scripts That Help: When Your Child Feels Ashamed

Shame makes children feel small and unworthy. These moments need safety, not scolding.

Try saying:
✔ “You’re not bad. You made a mistake, and we can work through it.”
✔ “Everyone messes up. You’re still loved.”
✔ “I’m proud of you for talking to me about this.”

🌿 These phrases help your child feel accepted, even in hard moments. That’s how resilience grows.

📌 Save this for later. Share with someone who needs it.

🧠 Have you talked to your child about body safety?

It might feel awkward, but these conversations are some of the most powerful ways we protect and empower our children.

A Body Safety Talk helps your child:
✔ Know their body belongs to them
✔ Understand the difference between safe and unsafe touch
✔ Feel confident to say no and speak up
✔ Identify safe adults they can talk to

When these messages are shared calmly and often, children feel more confident, more aware, and more protected.

🌿 I’ve created a free printable Body Safety Plan you can use at home.

Is therapy right for my child?

It’s a question many parents ask, and one that deserves a compassionate, honest answer.

Therapy isn’t about labels or problems. It’s about creating a space where children and teens feel safe, calm, and completely accepted. A space that belongs to them, where they can explore emotions, build confidence, and grow in ways that feel right for them.

Confidentiality is at the heart of this process. Your child’s voice leads the way, and while sessions remain private, we find meaningful ways to stay connected and reflect together. These check-ins are always guided by your child’s comfort and consent.

If you're considering therapy for your child or teen, I offer a free 15-minute consultation to talk things through and explore if this support feels like the right fit.

Not all healing starts with words. And it doesn’t have to. 🌿

When we’ve experienced trauma, the part of us that holds pain often lives deeper than language. That’s why creative tools like art, journaling, movement, music, and metaphor can be so powerful in therapy. This applies to children, teens, and adults alike.

Creative counselling allows us to:
✔ Express what feels too big or too complex to explain
✔ Regulate the nervous system gently and safely
✔ Rebuild a sense of self, imagination, and control
✔ Explore healing without needing to make sense of it all right away

Creativity bypasses the inner critic and reaches the parts of us that most need care.

Whether you’re navigating trauma, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm, creative therapy offers another way through.

🎮 Emotions can feel overwhelming - but there are ways to take back control.

If your child or teen struggles to regulate big feelings, this post is a gentle reminder that emotional control isn't about ignoring emotions - it's about learning what to do with them.

🗣️ Express how you're feeling
🌿 Give yourself some space
🎧 Try a calming activity or mood booster
💛 Accept the emotion without judgment
🔄 Change your perspective
🧘‍♀️ Use mindfulness or meditation to reset

Emotional regulation is a skill - and like any skill, it can be built over time with patience, support, and the right tools.

Always On: How Mobile Phones Are Blurring Our Boundaries 31/05/2025

📱 Are we ever really offline?

In today’s world, it can feel like we’re always switched on, especially our kids. Constant notifications, social pressure to reply instantly, and a blurred line between rest and screen time are taking a toll on mental health and family connection.

In my latest blog, I explore how mobile phones are impacting boundaries, what this means for children and teens, and how we can begin to reclaim balance in our homes.

🧠 It’s not about banning phones, it’s about building awareness and creating healthy digital habits.

Let me know your thoughts, are boundaries around screens something you struggle with too?

Always On: How Mobile Phones Are Blurring Our Boundaries I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve reached for my phone, not because I needed it, but because it was there. A quiet moment in the day? I check my emails. A lull in conversation? I scroll. A notification pings? I...
