Providing support though family breakdown and helping separating couples to communicate in a non-threatening environment Family mediation helps separating couples resolve parenting, financial and property disputes in a neutral environment.
When a commitment to mediation is made it can be more cost effective and less stressful than going through the courts, although couples are advised to appoint a solicitor as mediators cannot give legal advice. Most importantly, clients can learn how to keep lines of communication open for the future which is critical when children are part of the separation process.
Are you reading Israel/Palestine?????
"The time for healing of the wounds has come. The moment to bridge the chasm that divides us has come. The time to build is upon us." ~ Nelson Mandela during his Inauguration as President of South Africa, Union Buildings, Pretoria, South Africa, 10 May 1994
Regrettably, due to spiralling professional costs and the current climate SaM Mediation is no longer in business :(
Are sliding scale fees fair? Not sure. If your income is low and you are not eligible for financial help for mediation then it does keep the costs to the lowest possible. However the costs per session are pretty much the same regardless of the financial standing of the client. So would a sliding scale imply that those who are better off are charged more and therefore more profitable? There is an assumption that those earning more have more disposable income and I am sure that is not always the case. Personally I favour a realistic fee that is fixed. However I can also understand people opting for a company that offers a lower fee for those on limited income. It's a free market at the end of the day and the client gets to choose what suits them best.
Interesting report by Netmums which shows a worrying lack of understanding of their own children by divorcing parents. Perhaps misunderstanding is unfair as it seems more like they underestimate the impact of the relationship breakdown on their children. Few children are relieved and sadly many feel unable to to discuss this with their parents. It places huge pressure and the need for extensive coping mechanisms on the children, and highlights the impact of a lack of communication at such a sensitive time. It just goes to show that there is nothing normal about divorce when it comes to your own family. Makes for interesting reading, sadly.
Welcome to anyone who is checking SaM Mediation out from the NHS staff benefits website:)
Spent the last week or so lying low, full of flu. It just won't go! Hopefully resurfacing in time for my NHS marketing to go live. Maybe this will reach more people as I still think too many people are unaware of mediation as an option to settle their disputes more peaceably:)
Exciting news. I have just agreed to sign up to the local NHS benefits website and have spent the afternoon doing some preliminary work for the graphics team.Hope to see you there in a few weeks:)
Apple and Samsung are now entering mediation talks to attempt to resolve their epic dispute. This can only help raise the profile of mediation in aiding the resolution of any dispute, whether that is workplace mediation, civil and commercial or, as in the case of divorce and separation, family mediation. If only people realised this is a much more effective way to move forward than just going to court.
SaM Mediation has finally joined Twitter. I don't expect there will be much tweeting initially. I really don't know when I will find the time
An interesting TV programme about parents' separation from a child's point of view. The 'children' were between 16yrs to mid 20s and parents had been separated some years. The effects on the young people were clearly still there, with one still clinging to the hope mum and dad would get back together. Very sad, demonstrating the need to talk and more importantly to listen to what is being said. So often we hear only what we want to hear.
Mediation may be a big decision for you, but if you are separating, and your children are suffering, it may just be the light at the end of the tunnel.
Welcome to the SaM Mediation website. I have joined the social media world and spent most of my day off attempting to create this page. I hope you like it:)
