20 years in schools and and affinity with those with autism has led to this. Honestly massive thanks to Luke Beardon and your team for your patience. I've proved I'm not an academic again or is that disproved @sheffhallamuni #artistswithautism #technicallybrilliant

Here's William posing with his new creation 'The Fang'. He's made it from cardboard, expanding foam and this is the plaster layer before painting. He'll be at a cosplay event near you once lockdown has passed. #technicallybrilliant #artistswithautism #Warrington #cheshire

The news you've all been waiting for... TechnicallyBrilliant Club is back. Thursday afternoon sessions for making anything from art to androids. Creative classes for young people, especially those with ASC. Make art, animations, models, games... anything really :)

Please book so we can control numbers due to the virus. Thanks

Some see difference

[06/06/20]   Day 5 I started working in education about 20 years ago. Often with young people in care, trying to help them express themselves. I actually started painting again, during my corporate stint it was hard to find the time.

[06/05/20]   Day 4 showing my work. Sometimes when you look at things you see faces. This was actually in a friends exhibition space in Manchester... they allowed me to exaggerate the face I could see in the wall with some chalk. Later the exhibition visitors kept looking at the programme to see who'd done it. Oops! Art should fit or draw people in, leave them with questions or provoke ideas

Day 3 sharing my work. I ended up in media production. I made adverts and corporate videos by day and crazy light shows for raves around London by night. I still do projections for Aziz Ibrahim, I'm usually too busy to record anything :) This clip was from a fairly recent 'dubdubdub' performance - live mixing of sound and visuals from the internet. I use code to mash up stuff, it's always video that's relevant to the theme but sometimes it gets so distorted it looks like lines or blobs... it's great fun

Day 2 of showing my work. As my work progressed through 1989 and in to my early 20s I painted about injustice, conscientious objectors, love, and loss all things that I had strong empathy with especially as an angry young man. I started some work experience at Granda TV Liverpool after some animation work I'd done gave me an opportunity. The news room was fascinating and pushed me in to media production. These pieces are the pieces I chose to keep... I sold some, scraped some or just left them behind as I moved on. I am still much more interested in the process than the final piece. @ Technically Brilliant Art

A while ago @jo_b_smith and @rob_lenihan_studio started this thing where we post about our own work. I find it really difficult so I delayed. One reason is because people think I paint big bums... that is true but it is also a part of my mask. Having completed a PgC in Autism this year, I discovered that I am autistic. Anyway here's a painting a self portrait of my big bum xx Day1 prepare yourself for day 2 12/05/2020

Ok that's enough work for today ;)

Get some LOVE for Lua.
Better than looking at me ;)

I'm getting quite used to this life :) busy making games and learning stuff. Nicely situated next to the coffee machine just no room for some of the new gadgets.

This is for my budding game designers/coders ;) Should we have our own Roblox server? We already have a Minecraft server. As we are all at home I thought we could meet up at the usual times and see how the making is coming along? Ben I think you maybe good with Lua LOVE. Have a look and message me your thoughts.

My letter from the Prime Minister arrived early. For the first time in my life I'll do as I'm told. Stay safe, miss you all

Morning! I'm getting loads of new code done, learning lots of new stuff and obviously smashing Assassin's Creed. All the sweet stuff has gone already so I'm now on healthy food. Stay safe :)

Technically Brilliant Art

Hello everyone.
In these uncertain and worrying times, we hope you're all safe and well.
We will be monitoring the situation and advice about Covid 19 daily. At present we are still open and will remain open until advised otherwise by the Local Authority.
If you are coming down to the gallery or classes, please ensure you're not unwell. If you're feeling unwell the advise is to self-isolate.
When you get here please wash your hands and again when you leave.
Hopefully lots of us will take the extra time at home to carry on doing lots of art.

Our youngest artist in the current exhibition is Megan Phillips, who is also our best selling artist ! She has sold eight of her imaginative graphic novel style paintings so far. She sold out almost in the first week so we invited her to bring in a couple more which sold out again, the same again when she brought a couple more in.
I’m sure Megan , who has just turned 15 has a very exciting art career ahead of her.
We are really looking forward to seeing what she submits yo our 2020Vision. Exhibition.

Technically Brilliant Club started as Minecraft Club in Stockport 5 years ago, as all the young people wanted to play Minecraft but their parents didn’t get it. OK, some parents did get it but it was really about helping young autistic people meet and collaborate.

Some parents choose to home school their children, to avoid a ‘one size fits all’ secondary education system. Others with young people with autism realise school or college is just a difficult sensory environment for their children. At TechnicallyBrilliant we try to address this by providing a fun learning environment with small group sizes. The young person directs their learning and we make projects around what they’d like to achieve. Some young people work towards Arts Awards, some make products or prototypes, others just enjoy making.

Workshops cost £20 for a 2hour session, group sizes are around six people and all materials are provided.
Young people who attend will develop some skills like comic and game design, electronics and programming. So.... that’s what we do, everything from art to androids We provide machines and technology and we all try and make something. Animations with motion capture systems, models with parts cut on a CNC routers, games on our laptops, even films with our cameras... really anything. We hope to uncover the talents that could lead to careers or businesses that will help these young people be a part of the creative community. Help them make some friends and prove they are TechnicallyBrilliant.
