Back to Away journey’s down the M6 it is. One big NCL debut for us today we’ll tell you about… Our alternative grey and blue kit, courtesy once again from Ravensport Sports & Leisure.

One notable omission from the travelling support today and will unfortunately be for a few trips following, is club stalwart John Jefferson. We’re glad to say that after a series frustrating delays, Jeffo got in for his heart op at Blackpool Vic earlier this week. Hopefully the lads can put a performance in today for him as he recuperates.

Crosfields national conference side shrugged away the blues following last weeks disappointing result at Heworth, and again travelled over to Yorkshire side Dewsbury Celtic with a depleted side. Things looked ominous after 12 minutes when the rampant home side sailed into a 12-00 lead. But to their credit soap rallied and the return of Hayden James on 20 minutes sparked a comeback. Soap managed to contain the home side for the following 68 minutes when their persistence paid off with a very late try, but soap had the game won.

Head Coach Matt Wilson was really pleased with his teams performance away in Yorkshire again “Thought we started a bit sluggish defensively losing Dan Garcia in the first 30 seconds meant to had to change things around and we had a completely reshaped back line but I thought our patience and game management today was great probably the best it’s been all year.

They had a real dig Dewsbury but once we got in front I felt like we’re comfortable in the game , It was a great response to getting beat last week.

Jack Lewis & Joe Barnes were great all day and really caused them problems , Ben Steele & Ben Stevens excellent stepping up us with players missing

But Tom Millington was fantastic for us today & so was Brad McAlpine 80 minute performance from him , Lovely to see hayden back too like he’s never been away.

lads have a week off now to rest up & we will then prepare for 2 more big games v Dudley Hill & our Derby v Woolston.

There is no game next weekend, next fixture is April 23rd v Bradford Dudley Hill at home

🔵🟡NCL Final Score 🔵🟡

Heworth 30 - Crosfields 8

Crosfields NCL team went to Heworth with their unbeaten 4/4 run seriously under threat. With the division 2 proving to be a very tough talented division, travelling to York with a large number of injured players missing, it was always going to be a tough ask for the travelling soap. Heworth proved their worth and a very well structured disciplined team controlled the first half and had the game won on 40 minutes. FT 30-08

wilson added “ Our first half effort just wasn’t anywhere near good enough we have set our year on a strong defensive effort and that first 35 minutes was way way off where we need to be.

We were missing played yeah but that’s not an excuse we didn’t front up and allowed ourselves to be out enthused and that’s not good enough , Credit to us a fixed it up at half time and I thought second half was much more like it from us but by then the game had gone.

They are a good physical side and to beat them in York you have to be at defensively and we had too many people who are were way off it , We will lick our wounds and focus on next week v Dewsbury away”

Congratulations to Logan who was our ‘Trainer of the Day’ at our Cubs session this morning. Well Done Logan 🏉🏉🏉

🏉 Matt Wilson has had to shuffle his back due to injuries this week but has still named a strong 17 to travel to Heworth to look to keep our unbeaten start alive 🏉

We caught up with Wilson to discuss this game ahead this weekend “ We have been back on the field this week so it’s been nice to work on some of our completion and we’ve put some real focus on staying patient & being a team that is willing to get in the arm wrestle.

We have lost our 2 x Fullbacks to injury which is a blow John & Luke are big for us but I have coached Jack Lewis at Fullback a lot he’s a top draw fullback at this level so we’re good.

Joe Ryan & Jack Wright have picked up muscle injuries and Chambo has copped a 1 matc ban but we have some real strength in depth so Liku comes in and gets first NCL shot of the year, Ben stevens is a fantastic player and if he didn’t live in leeds he would of played NCL this year before now but he’s travelled down to train this week with the group so i’m excited to see him go.

I’m really positive and excited about this group tomorrow I feel we have good mix and we can go and bring back two points and express ourselves”

Coach Leaves at 11am

Crosfields open age had a rare Saturday where both NCL and NWML teams played at home.
Andrew Campbells Alliance team hosted high flying Thatto Heath and fielded a strong team. In a very close encounter soap edged the win 28-24. Franco "It's pleasurable coaching the alliance at the moment. The lads are playing for their shirts and competition is great for the team. All players are benefiting and improving individually. Todays visitors were well drilled and tested us for 80 minutes. I'm pleased we got the win, I think we deserved it overall." MOM Ben Steele

Matty Wilsons NCL side hosted Hunslet Warriors. Both teams were unbeaten leading into the game, so it promised to be a humdinger and it didn't disappoint the spectators, Wilson was far from impressed with the performance though “We saved our worst performance for today , for 60 minutes we were woeful it’s not good enough, we set better standards than that as a team we have to be better than that and quickly - too many penalties and a completion rate of 15% for 60 minutes just a really poor showing from us but we found some quality in the last 20 minutes we scored 30 points and completed at 100% and it got us out of jail , All we can take from today are lessons and 2 points but we will need to be much better next week or we will get it handed to us , much to do!

i thought Babsy , Joe Ryan & Kane were great for us on a pretty average day”

FT 36-20. MOM Matty Barber
