Medication Matters: If you're managing four or more different medicines, it's essential to be aware that this can increase the risk of falls. Sometimes, these medicines can interact with each other. That's why we suggest having a chat with your GP or trusted pharmacist. They can review your medications every six months to make sure you're not taking anything you no longer need.

Important Reminder: Please, always follow your prescribed medication unless your GP or healthcare professional advises otherwise. If you ever forget to take your medication or miss a dose of time-critical meds, don't hesitate to reach out to your GP or healthcare expert for guidance.

Leo's World 🌍

Leo's been with us for nearly three wonderful years! He's a bundle of energy, always popping into our Wolverhampton branch with his fantastic carers. Leo's an active young man who lives life to the fullest.

We're there for Leo four days a week, helping with groceries, cooking up delicious meals, and even chauffeuring him to his drama class. Leo's not just a drama enthusiast; he's a budding actor! You might've seen him as an extra on Doc Martin; he appeared in multiple episodes, even in the final ones. 🌟

Leo is also passionate about giving back to the community. He's gearing up to become a regular volunteer at the Black Country Museum. When he's not at the museum, he's hitting the lanes for some bowling or enjoying Wolf Mountain, our local adventure spot.

This summer, Leo and three of our amazing carers embarked on thrilling adventures to Barry Island, Alton Towers, and the Cube Experience in Manchester. ☀️🎢

Leo's life is jam-packed. We're there for it all: shopping trips, cinema nights, fresh haircuts, and quality time with grandparents. He's a history buff, too, with a soft spot for English Heritage sites. You can catch him at the local pub on Thursdays, strutting his stuff at open mic night.

Leo plans his week with the help of his incredible mom and carers, and we're always ready to go the extra mile to ensure he enjoys his favourite activities, like the recent drama production.

In Leo's words, his carers - Harriet, Lenny, and Robert - are simply 'amazing,' and we couldn't agree more! Leo, you're the star of Leo's World, and we're privileged to be part of your journey. 🌟❤️

Rainbow Smiles Sara 🌈

The Bury branch looks after their lovely customer Sara, who recently visited the Manchester Pride Parade. 🤩

The branch has supported Sara since December 2017 with personal care, companionship and meal preparation. Unfortunately, Sara has endured a period of ill health but remains bright and cheerful! She is always smiling and an example to us all to stay positive even in the most challenging times. Her strength and determination leave her care team in awe! 🙌

She was thrilled when Sara was offered an opportunity to participate in the Manchester Pride Parade. Sara likes all things girly and loves a bit of sparkle, so it was natural that she dressed up for the occasion with an array of rainbow props, colours and glitter. We think she looks fabulous. ✨

Her team have become members of her extended family, and her carers look forward to their visits with her. Her cheerfulness and optimism mean that she is an absolute joy to support! 🥰

If swallowing poses a challenge, consult your healthcare expert for safe hydration options. We're here to support your well-being!

Catching the rays ☀

John has been a live-in care customer with Helping Hands for six months. A nasty fall left John with a neck injury, and therefore he needed additional care in the home. The team ensure that John has the correct support and aids in place which allows him to move around his home safely.

John speaks fluent French, as does his main carer and they often communicate in French, much to John’s delight. John was an interior designer who often discusses design ideas with his carers and enjoys keeping his garden well.

Our Live-in Care Manager Laura recently visited John as the Occupational Therapist had some difficulty in finding the right standing aids to suit his needs, as his neck injury has forced his chin to his chest and his back to curve. This makes it very difficult for John to see properly and therefore find a centre of gravity.

During a particularly sunny day, John was incredibly brave and used a new standing aid to maneuver himself into his wheelchair, which allowed his carers to get him outside and into the sunshine. John had not been outdoors in over a year, so this was an incredible achievement which could not have been accomplished without the support of his carers Binod and Kavin. This was an emotional moment for everyone.

John thoroughly enjoyed being out in the sunshine and could sit with his family in the garden, which he loved.

Congratulations Suzanne who is September's Moments of Kindness. Suzanne has been going above and beyond with all her customers she goes too. We have had so many lovely compliments from customers for her kindness and her lovely bubbly personality. Peter & Carer Ann's story: A trip to the Countryside 🍂

I started with Helping Hands Durham a year ago and soon became a carer for the most fantastic gentleman named Peter.
Peter and our customers are why we go to work and do the job we do and love! ❤

On my visits with Peter, we would go grocery shopping and drive past some beautiful countryside. He would tell me how he wished he could still get out there. He sadly lost his wife 6years ago and told me they loved to get out into the countryside together. He has seen less of the country these past few years due to reduced leg mobility and breathing difficulties.

After a chat with his daughter and a branch team risk assessment, Peter and I drove into the countryside and visited The Fell. Some benches took you to a 360-degree view of the area he used to live in and where he lives now. I would prepare sandwiches for us to take, along with a drink of coffee or juice! 🤩
