Ghost calories are real.
They haunt us all to some degree.
They can be found lurking in that square (or three) of Dairy Milk that you had while waiting for the kettle to boil....
They're that overly large portion hummus that you had with your lunch....(yes, you can eat too much 'healthy' food too)
They're in the few chips that you took off the kid's tea as you were dishing up....
They're in that glass of wine or bottle of beer that you had after work to help you unwind....
It doesn't matter whether you keep a diet diary, whether you use an app to track your food or whether you follow one of the many and varied diet plans that are around at the moment.
They are only as good as you are honest with yourself.
Ghost calories may only manifest themselves as a mouthful here and a swig there, but they all add up over the course of a day or a week.

You've nailed the diet...
You eat all of the right foods, but you're still not losing weight...
What about your portion sizes? You can still see eat too much of even the healthiest of foods.
Calories still count, regardless of where they come from.

'Toned' really means 'build muscle and lose fat so that you can see their definition'.

I once had a client start who didn't eat fruit because she'd been told that it was 'fattening', but was fine with drinking half a dozen bottles of wine a week 🤦🏻♂️

Yes, it's a joke meme, but in my experience it certainly seems to be the case that men are able to lose weight more easily than women.
There are several physiological reasons why this is the case; muscle mass and hormones among others.

The most common reason that people come to me for a massage is neck and shoulder discomfort.

We spend around a quarter to a third of our lives in bed, so a poorly chosen pillow can cause all kinds of problems to arise.
Even if you have the right one(s), you need to change them regularly. As often as every 6 months or so.

You don't even need to do an hour.
It's better to do 20 minutes 5 days a week that do an hour every now and again.

Unfortunately, some people expect too much too soon. That's not always a good thing.
"I'm too unfit to go to the gym"
It may seem like a silly headline, but you'd be amazed at how many times I've heard people say it during my years as a PT.
Who can blame them for coming to that conclusion when the picture below is a typical gym advert.
This picture was taken from an e-mail, sent to me a while ago by one of the national gym chains to promote a 'new' class that they're running.
Typically, it features hunky, fat-free, good looking models. All looking very serious indeed and moving in perfect unison to a choreographic standard that would make even a professional dancer weep, give up, and become a window cleaner.
Compared to that lot, most of us would be afraid of flailing around like a fish out of water. Pretty well every gym advert that I've ever seen has been the same.
If they want to alientate people, then they're doing a pretty good job.....
It doesn't matter how long it's been since you last did any exercise (even if it was PE when you were at school).
it doesn't matter how much excess fat you're carrying around.
It doesn't matter if you get out of breath just getting up off the sofa.
Everyone has to start somewhere. Don't be put off by the pretty boys and girls on the adverts.
