Emotional Freedom Technique is gaining traction as a healing modality.
Dr Peta Stapleton has completed research into it's effectiveness and found that the benefits of EFT include deactivation of the amygdala (stress centre in the brain) and hippocampus (memory centre), as well as vagal nerve improvement.
EFT has also been shown to significantly lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone). Research on gene expression indicates EFT has has the ability to down regulate genes associated with the stress response, and up-regulate or improve immune functioning.

If you would like to try EFT, please get in touch to arrange your session.

This is a great tool to use, based on Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
The ACT Hexaflex: A model that aids mental wellbeing by promoting psychological flexibility 🌟
The ACT Hexaflex is a model from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) that aims to build psychological flexibility as a way to lead a meaningful life despite adversity and mental struggle. It includes the the ability to adapt, stay present, and take action in line with your values.
We had a lot of ACT teaching during training, especially in relation to clinical health psychology work. It is often used to help people adapt when life throws significant difficulties and adversity that cannot be overcome at someone.
Six core processes are seen as important:
✅ Staying in the present – Staying mindful of the here and now
✅ Connecting with values – reflecting on what truly matters to you
✅ Committed Action – Taking steps toward your values and a more meaningful life
✅ Self-as-Context – Seeing yourself beyond your thoughts and the narratives you hold about yourself
✅ Acceptance of thoughts (Diffusion) stepping back from and observing unhelpful thoughts
✅ Acceptance – Making space for difficult emotions and experiences rather than fighting them
When we practice these, we free ourselves from struggle and move toward a more meaningful life.

So .. what is Counselling?
Counselling is a professional, therapeutic process where a qualified Counsellor helps you explore and address personal issues, emotional challenges, mental health concerns, or life transitions. The goal of counselling is to offer a space where you feel heard and understood.
Person Centred Counsellors (also called Humanistic Counsellors) uphold the core conditions within sessions, which include offering unconditional positive regard (acceptance), being empathic and demonstrating a non-judgemental attitude.
Person Centred Counsellors view you as the expert in your experience, and the therapeutic relationship is key to supporting therapeutic change. Counsellors use skills such as paraphrasing, immediacy and the use of therapeutic silence.
The aim of Counselling is to support you to develop insight, new perspectives and coping strategies. This in turn helps to improve your well-being, understand your feelings, develop healthier behaviours, and feel better equipped to navigate difficult life situations.
The therapeutic relationship you have with your Counsellor is central. When choosing a Counsellor, it’s useful to read their directory listing to get a feel for their way of working. If you feel a resonance with them, you can often book a short introductory call, to ask any questions and get a better feel for whether they are the right Counsellor for you.
As we are all unique, you may speak to several Counsellors before you find the right one. As a Counsellor, I’m always happy to offer an introductory call, as I want you to feel comfortable and open to engaging with me.
As an Integrative Counsellor, I offer Person Centred Counselling, with additional tools and techniques from other counselling models. I also offer more traditional Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for clients with specific goals in mind.
