Community pharmacies can offer treatment for seven common conditions without patients needing to see a GP, as part of a major transformation in the way the NHS delivers care.

Highly trained pharmacists at more than nine in ten pharmacies can now assess and treat patients for earache, impetigo, infected insect bites, shingles, sinusitis, sore throat, and urinary tract infections (UTIs) for women aged 16-64 -without the need for a GP appointment.

Available on the high street, community pharmacy teams have the right clinical training to give people the health advice they need, with no appointment necessary and private consultations available.

Don't wait for minor health concerns to get worse โ€“ think pharmacy first and get seen by your local pharmacy team

If your GP refers you to a specialist, you usually have the right to choose which hospital you go to. You can choose a hospital in your area โ€“ or one further away if you wish. You may also choose an independent hospital if it provides services for the NHS. You have the right to choose your hospital, but if you prefer, you can ask your GP to help you decide.

To learn more about Patient Choice, visit: www.nhs.uk/patientchoice

You can compare hospitals across England by waiting times and Care Quality Commission ratings at www.myplannedcare.nhs.uk The website includes information about NHS providers and independent sector health organisations which provide NHS services.

If you do not have access to the internet, you can call the National Referral Helpline for help with choosing and confirming your hospital on 0345 608 8888.

Wondering how to make the most of your telephone appointment with your GP?

Consider your symptoms carefully and decide if you need help or support with your phone call, or if an in-person consultation is necessary. During the appointment, provide as much information as possible to your clinician and ask about the next steps if your symptoms persist.

Telephone appointments can be a safe and effective way to access healthcare from the comfort of your own home.
