Happy Chinese New Year!

Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year or Spring Festival falls on Tuesday, February 1st, 2022, starting a year of the Tiger.

The date of Chinese New Year changes every year, but it always falls between January 21st and February 20th. The date is decided by the Chinese Lunar Calendar, which is based on cycles of the moon and sun and is generally 21–51 days behind the Gregorian calendar.

Celebrations of Chinese New Year traditionally last for 16 days, starting from Chinese New Year's Eve to the Lantern Festival. In 2022, that is from January 31st to February 15th.

2022 is the year of the tiger. According to myth, the Jade Emperor declared the order of zodiac signs would be based on the order that each of the 12 animals finished a great race. In the legend, the tiger was so confident that no one could compete with its speed and vigour, it was certain it would win the celestial competition. As the tiger climbed out of the river assuming it was first, it was shocked to find that the rat had actually won for its cunning, and the ox had placed second for its diligence - leaving it in third place.

If you were born in 2010, 1998, 1986, 1974, 1962, 1950, 1938, 1926, 1914 you fall under the year of the tiger (12 year cycle). People born in the year of the tiger have several admirable traits - they are typically thought to be brave, forceful, powerful, confident and independent. And when it comes to love, they are the most compatible with those born in the year of the dragon, horse and pig, whose personalities often complement these traits.

You may have seen the news about the massive vaccination plans and how this might impact routine appointments. We know this might be a worrying time for you especially if you have appointments booked both in general practice or at hospital.

At this stage, we are speedily trying to understand what’s expected of us and working through the details so we can let you know the very latest as soon as possible. We found out at the same time as you did last night.

Our reception team won’t have any details about vaccinations if you call so if you have any queries, please sit tight and we shall post an update here shortly. Let’s keep the phone lines free for people who need urgent appointments. Thank you so much everyone
Did you know changing your inhalers could help tackle the climate crisis?
Ventolin inhalers have a carbon footprint equivalent to 28kg of carbon dioxide. This is the equivalent carbon footprint of driving a petrol car from Sheffield to London.
Many patients are now seeking ways to reduce greenhouse gases released from their inhalers by switching their inhalers.

At Padgate we have started on a planet saving exercise by switching some inhalers.

Please be reassured that although the inhaler may look or taste different, it contains the exact same drug and will have the same benefits as before.

If you would like some help using your new inhaler please consult your local pharmacy.

Get help for your symptoms - NHS 111

We are extremely busy at the moment please consider all health options that are available in the community if you think you need to see a health professional:

• Your local pharmacist can help with any advice and medicines for minor illnesses and injuries and most have a room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard. Pharmacists are also trained to tell you when your symptoms mean you need to see someone at your GP Practice

• Go online at www.111.nhs.uk if you urgently need medical help or advice and it’s not a life threatening situation. With NHS111 online you can:
 find out how to get the right healthcare in their area, including whether you need to see a GP or seek urgent care
 get advice on self-care
 get a call back from a nurse, doctor or other trained health professional if you need it

• Your local urgent treatment centres are open 365 days a year and can treat non-life-threatening illness and injury and has x-ray facilities. The two nearest to Warrington are Widnes and Runcorn

• Please keep A&E free for those who really need it and only attend A&E or call 999 for a life-threatening illness such as choking, chest pain, blood loss or open fractures. If you attend A&E and your condition not deemed to be life threatening, you will be advised of other local services that are more suitable for you

• Also remember self-care. The majority of people feel comfortable managing everyday minor ailments like coughs and colds themselves, particularly when they feel confident in recognising the symptoms and have successfully used over-the-counter medicine before. More information about how to treat many common conditions at home can be found on the national NHS website: www.nhs.uk/conditions

Get help for your symptoms - NHS 111 Parts of the NHS will be on strike on 15, 20, 21 and 28 December. Urgent care services are likely to be very busy with longer waiting times than normal. Help will always be available in an emergency.

We would like to make you aware that Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals are currently reporting significant pressures at Warrington Hospital.

The Trust recently escalated to OPEL 4.
General Practice is being informed for awareness.

Specifics of the situation are:

- Higher number of attendances at our Emergency Department with more patients requiring admission.

- Longer waits for ambulances to hand patients over to the ED teams.

- Increased number of patients waiting in the ED for admission to a hospital bed.

- Limited number of beds available.

- High number of patients in our hospitals who are medically fit to leave but for a variety of reasons are unable to do so.

Happy International Nurses Day 2022 💙

The pandemic showed us that our nurses are the heart of the NHS, but their hard work and compassion that makes this true was there long before 2020, and will continue long after we move past COVID-19.

Today we recognise the huge contribution they make every day.

To all nurses, past, present and future - thank you 💙

11/05/2022

There is never enough praise that we can give our front line staff. Battling through the demand far outweighing the capacity on a daily basis. Still smiling, even though the have just been spoken to in a less-than-appealing manner. Asking you to go to pharmacy instead of the surgery but also getting you to call an ambulance if they spot any red flags. The voice at the end of the phone, the face behind the glass, the heart behind everything they do. Join us as we celebrate our Reception staff on the National Receptionist Day!
BIG thank you to Team Padgate receptionists !

Happy St Patrick’s Day!

Today is St. Patrick’s Day, feast day of St. Patrick, patron saint of Ireland. Born in Roman Britain in the late 4th century, he was kidnapped at the age of 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave. He escaped but returned about 432 CE to convert the Irish to Christianity.

By the time of his death on March 17, 461, he had established monasteries, churches, and schools. Many legends grew up around him—for example, that he drove the snakes out of Ireland and used the shamrock to explain the Trinity. Ireland came to celebrate his day with religious services and feasts!
