Another slightly late Brand Appreciation Monday. Oops! ๐Ÿ™ˆ
With the warmer weather (sort of โ›ˆโ›ˆโ›ˆ) and the football on, we thought we'd highlight VerSport. We think there's no better range of sports glasses around.
They offer a visual solution for every athlete; whatever their age. The features include:

- Impact resistant frames made from a high-yield polymer based material
- Dual locking with raised rear bevel edge system for great lens retention
- Quick Twist Exchange Mechanism (QTEM) allows easy change between plastic arms or a headband
- An anti-shock and optimal air flow bridge

The majority of the frames come complete with sports band, head band, case, cleaning cloth, and anti-fog gel.
They can be purchased straight off the shelf ready to wear, or have a wide range of prescription lenses fitted.

Ronit Fรผrst - unique hand painted eye wear ๐ŸŽจ

Ronit was an avid eyewear collector and prescription wearer, constantly looking for her next frame, but it was the turn of a century and she felt she needed something really special.

Failing to find a frame that would satisfy her mood for renewal, she decided to paint on one of her existing frames ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŽจ

Each one of the frames is hand painted, freedom to produce almost every pattern and colour combination imaginable.

Looking closely, you can see the paintbrush stokes and texture of the paint, just like a painting on canvas ๐Ÿ–ผ

June is #Cataract Awareness Month. Here's some useful information.

A cataract affects the lens of the eye.
The lens begins life (generally) as a crystal clear structure which helps with the focusing of the eye.

Whilst many refer to a cataract as a "film" growing over the eye, it is in fact where the structure of the lens becomes cloudy in places. This scatters light as it passes through the eye causing blurry vision and glare.

The majority of cataracts are age-related but they can be congenital (from birth) or develop as a result of trauma or a side effect of certain medications.

The vast majority worsen gradually over many years but on occasions symptoms can develop quite rapidly.
If you're aware of a sudden worsening of your vision and know you have a cataract it's really important that you don't assume that's the cause of the decline and you get a thorough check, ASAP, to rule out more serious and urgent conditions.

Finally, it's not all doom and gloom if you develop a cataract. Surgery to remove the cataract is very quick and carries a really low risk of complications.
Whatever your concerns if you don't think you're seeing as well as you did then make sure you go and see your optometrist.

Here in our #Warrington practice we've invested heavily to make sure we have the latest technologies to help make sure that if anything else is causing your issues we can detect it and manage it appropriately.

Contact Graham on 0161 549 2560 to book in or use our recently updated online booking https://maskelloptometrists.mysight.uk/

May is Stroke Awareness Month ๐Ÿ“….

Most people will have heard of a stroke. Some people may be aware that having a stroke can affect your vision in many different ways. For example, a homonymous hemianopia (a loss of the left or right side of your vision - left in the photo below).

What many people probably aren't aware of is that a thorough eye examination can detect changes in the blood vessels in the eye which may be markers of stroke risk. In the photo below - arteriovenous nicking (box), cotton wool spots (black arrows), and retinal haemorrhage (white arrow).

Our Warrington practice may not be up to full swing yet but our amazing team is available still, by appointment only.
This week I'm going to introduce you to the wonderful people that make Maskell + Josephson Warrington the opticians to look after your eye care and eye wear.

I asked all three of them the same four questions.

This is part 3 of 3.

Introducing Graham.
Q: When did you start working in optics?
A: I have over 24 years of experience in the optics world, which is amazing considering I'm only 30 years old... (Fact check: This statement has not been proven to be true)

Q: What is your best and worst part of working in optics?
A: It's a bit of a clichรฉ but my favourite part is sorting a patient's problem out (related to their eye health or prescription) when nobody else could, i.e. I love being a smart arse.
The worst part is following on from the above the aforementioned patient tells everyone to see you to sort all their issues out, no matter how small.

Q: Do you have any pets?
A: No pets. I honestly don't know why anyone would let an animal live in their house by choice.

Q: What is your favourite frame range that we offer.
A: Definitely Tom Ford. One of the more recognisable brands in store and one of the most striking and identifiable ones too. Great, bold frames (without being too much) for men and women.

29/01/2021

All of our lovely staff are in the process of getting their vaccinations sorted out. Our optometrist was up first.
Gray done. Mai and Rae are up next.

This week I'm going to introduce you to the wonderful people that make Maskell + Josephson Warrington the opticians to look after your eye care and eye wear.

I asked all three of them the same four questions.

This is part 2 of 3.

Introducing Rachelle.
Q: When did you start working in optics?
A: I have been working in optics for over 13 years, helping people choose the best frames to suit their style, personality and requirements.

Q: What is your best and worst part of working in optics?
A: I love framing a new face with a great pair of specs. I don't like it when someone falls in love with a frame and is really excited by the way it looks and feels, just have all that joy removed by one person and a bad passing comment about it.

Q: Do you have any pets?
A: Yes. Benji is my 10 year old rescue dog, and Dexter is my 1 year old rescue bunny.

Q: What is your favourite frame range that we offer.
A: I can't choose just one. My top two are Silhouette and Face a Face. Silhouette frames are so light weight. Most people associate them with rimless frames but they offer some gorgeous full frames but keeping their light weight properties. Face a Face produce some of the most spectacular frames out there, ranging from mild and conservative to bold and loud - I love them!

Q: When did you start working in optics?
A: I started working in optics around 2012. I became a fully qualified dispensing optician in 2019.

Q: What is your best and worst part of working in optics?
A: My favourite part is being able to resolve any problems a person has with their glasses. The worst part is having to say "no" sometimes to a frame that looks amazing but fits poorly or isn't suitable for its use.

Q: Do you have any pets?
A: I have a rescue dog, Henry, who is 5 years old.

Q: What is your favourite frame range that we offer.
A: I love the Paul Smith collection. There are lots of different styles so there's something for everyone.
