A resident contacted us recently to ask if there was truth to a rumour she’d heard about willow trees being damaged at The Arty. Friends of the Arty, Acklam confirmed that one of the bigger trees and some saplings had been sadly damaged. Volunteers tidied and pruned the trees at the last action day. It’s very sad that someone did this. If you would like to support the brilliant work the Friends of the Arty do, please give them a “like” or email them at [email protected]

It is great to see work starting on improving parking on Glenfield Drive - something we’ve pushed for.

🚗 Narrow, churned up verges are being replaced with tarmac to improve parking

🌱 grass is being retained where it is wider with a strip of tarmac to avoid damaged and muddy verges

We had a fantastic time today doing coronation crafts, hosted by Friends of Acklam Library. It was great to see so many children (and a fair few adults who came with them) getting stuck in making bunting and crowns for the coronation of the King. Luke was quite pleased with his creation!

This is great news. Recent events with congestion on Hall Drive have shown how much we need a well thought through solution to this and Vic has worked really hard gathering the information and speaking to everyone. Kader residents will be well served if Vic wins on 4 May! We are looking g forward to working with him!

This is sad news. We both worked with Ron in the past and he was always passionate about our town and his role as Armed Forces Champion. He was always decent and well respected across party lines. Sending our best wishes to Ron’s family.

Tributes have been paid following the death of a Middlesbrough Councillor and armed forces champion.

Councillor Ron Arundale, who represented the town’s Kader ward, died peacefully after a short illness at the age of 77.

Cllr Arundale served with the Parachute Regiment in his 20s and would be an active and passionate supporter of the regiment for the rest of his life.

Following an apprenticeship with British Steel Cllr Arundale worked for a number of companies before joining FJ Booth & Partners where he worked as a plater for a number of years.

An interest in local politics saw him become chair of the Lodore Grove Residents’ Association before the then leader of Middlesbrough Council’s Conservatives, Hazel Pearson, persuaded him to run for election.

He was first elected in 2011, serving as Armed Forces champion from 2012 to 2016, and playing leading roles in the local Armed Forces Day and fund-raising for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

During a second spell as Armed Forces champion from 2019 he went to Edinburgh to collect the ERS Gold Award on behalf of Middlesbrough Council, recognition from the MoD of the local authority’s commitment to the armed forces.

He was chair of Middlesbrough Council’s Licensing Committee and as an environmental champion he was a very active member of the Friends of Bluebell Beck.

He had a life-long love of dogs – especially sight hounds – and enjoyed walking and family holidays in Northumberland and the Yorkshire Dales.

He leaves a widow, Brenda, and two sons Mark and John.

The funeral of Cllr Arundale will take place at 1.30pm at St Bede’s Chapel, Teesside Crematorium on Friday, May 12.

Chris is exactly who we need leading our town. He wants to make a difference to people’s lives, not feed his own ego. He will make our council work for people again, not see it placed in special measures. And he will keep Acklam’s street lights on.
We are proud to support Chris! Make sure you do too!
