"I didn't grow up in Dundalk, I'm a blow-in. I moved to Muirhevnamor in November 1995 and never, not for one second, ever looked back.

A few weeks after I moved in I met my best friend. I went up to my bathroom and found a giant spider in the tub. I ran down the stairs like a rocket and out the front door. Two doors down, there was a woman standing at her front door. I shouted at her, "I'm sorry, I live just over there," and asked her if she was afraid of spiders. She said she wasn't, and we went back to my bathroom. I didn't go in, I was too afraid. She went in, I heard water, and she got rid of the spider. We came back down the stairs, and I thanked her. She said, "You know what, if I saw that spider in my bathroom, I wouldn't have gone in, but I didn't want to look like an eejit." We became the very best of friends from that day to this .That was my first interaction with a neighbor from around here.

I have the best of neighbours. Even during COVID, you would get up some days and there would be milk at the gate. You wouldn't even see who left it there. In some places, people keep to themselves, but here, if I'm out the front with my flowers people will stop and talk. You don't know them sometimes, but you have a great chat at the gate. Through that, you meet a lot of people—decent, decent people. If you need something done, I can open my door and there will always be someone there. Money couldn't buy that. My dog draws a great crowd to the front of the house , especially kids, and they play catch with the ball.

I used to get the bus into town on Friday mornings, and there would be 4 or 5 women from the area on the bus. We would only know each other by our first names, and we used to call ourselves the grey-haired crew. But no matter where you would meet in town, you would always stop and have that 5-minute chat and a laugh."
