Over 100 varieties from May to October, many traditional cottage garden flowers – including sweet peas, cornflowers, sweet williams , stocks, sunflowers and dahlias. Sussex Flower Farm for a variety of informative and comprehensive one day courses.
Whether you are a seasoned grower or a complete novice, Shelley will drench you with practical
advice and information pertaining to all aspects of growing flowers. From literally seed to
harvest and everything in between for those who either wish to develop a business of their own
or just have the urge to enjoy, learn and develop their personal dreams of growing beautiful
seasonal, sustainable and glorious flowers.

26th October 2018
This is a lovely one day course for those wanting to start to grow flowers for cutting but
don’t know where to begin. You will gain an understanding of the differing flower types, their
needs and the best varieties in order to achieve success from your own flower patch.
We will look at flower choices for your cutting patch with tips and tricks for sowing various
types of seed for successful germination. Advice on pricking out, potting on and preparing
seeds for the great outdoors. We will also look at soil types and preparation. Finally we’ll look
at recording our efforts for future success.
10.30am until 3.00pm Cost £85.00. Includes light refreshments, *two course lunch and a
packet of mixed flower seed to take home.
November 2018
The day starts with Shelley taking you for a walk around The Sussex Flower Farm, advising on
techniques for success in growing and cutting flowers ready for arrangements. There will be
ready cut and conditioned flowers for you to select from in order to create your own handtied
bunch to take home. Following a
delicious two course lunch, Helen “Nell” McGrath, owner of Nell’s Flowers will guide you
through the art of hand tying your flowers.
10.30am until 3.00pm Cost £85.00 Includes light refreshments, *two course lunch and a
packet of mixed flower seed to take home.
29th October 2018
Shelley will guide you through planning how to optimise your growing success with flower
choices (and colour!) to extend your cut flower season from Spring until the first frost of
This will include suggestions for the best seasonal “cut and flower again” varieties of both
annual and perennial flowering plants. Also guidance on successional sowing and planting
in order to extend your flowering season.
In the afternoon Shelley will advise whether it may be better for you personally to grow
from seed, buy plug plants, or ready established plants. Where to begin?!
Advice will be given on keeping track of your progress, how to record the successes (and
disappointments) in a most efficient manner.

5th November, 3rd December 2018
Shelley will be joined for this one day course by Helen McGrath, owner of Nell’s Flowers.
We will be using dried and preserved flowers from The Sussex Flower Farm. During the
morning, Nell will demonstrate the various techniques used to create beautiful displays.
Following a tasty two course lunch, Nell and Shelley will guide you through selecting and
making an arrangement to take home.

10th & 17th December 2018
Helen “Nell” McGrath will once again join Shelley to demonstrate making a beautiful
Christmas Wreath, using seasonal foliage and (hopefully!) flowers from The Sussex Flower
In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to create your own wreath to take home.
1.30pm until 5pm
Includes light refreshments. Cost £65.00
*Two course lunch consists of home grown and home-made seasonal soup, bread roll, and
either cheese and biscuits or seasonal fruit dessert. Locally grown and glorious flowers from our West Sussex smallholding. Supplying wholesale British flowers to local florists, brides, event planners and businesses.
