Steyning Rugby - Club Update - 28th Feb. 2021

Firstly a quick line to apologise for the lack of communication in the past few weeks, I am sure like most we have been keeping our heads down and in truth struggling a little with the grind of lock down! Thankfully with the announcement of HM Govt. “road map” out of the current lock down coupled with the fantastic effort again from the NHS and the vaccine programme we can start to plan our own return to all things rugby…

We are looking at the following dates as points to relaunch the 3 main parts of our wonderful community rugby club:

MINIS - Easter Weekend, TBC

O2 TOUCH - Monday 29th March

SENIORS - Thursday 1st April

We will know much more w/c 8th March and will post confirmed dates and details that week on various media platforms…

We are hoping to see our club flourish again and really need your help and support to achieve this. See you all very soon.

Keep well.

Richard

On behalf of all here at Steyning Rugby I wish you the very best of health for the year ahead… Like many the festive period was quieter than in years before, for some a more enjoyable and slower pace but for others more testing. We as a club are proud to be here in support of all.

As you are no doubt aware, Sussex is currently in Tier 4 for the COVID response from our Govt. As such we have taken all of our rugby back to Road Map A, this includes the MINIS section as well as O2 Touch and Seniors. There was an opportunity for us to operate Under 18s rugby at this time, however the club felt it better for all that we didn’t…. in truth the club cannot see any rewards for taking such risks.
The Club will be constantly monitoring guidelines and the local health advice whilst adapting our operations in our community.

Again, have a very happy and healthy new year. Do shout if we can help in any way.

We have today seen an update from ENGLAND RUGBY stating that we can now return to various forms of rugby training and in the coming months adapted matches.
We will be sending out separate messages in the next couple of days to update the Men's seniors, MINIS sections and O2 Touch players about each area... We plan to be back with Mens training Thursday 3rd, Minis will be back Sunday 6th and O2 Touch Monday 7th, all rolling up to the Christmas break.

We will as ever be running our track and trace systems via Pitchero and our Website. Please think of others.

Our club may be on pause but our shirts are finally in!! Couldn’t wait to get mine in 🤪

02/11/2020

Please see the below update from our club chairman

Steyning Rugby - COVID Update - 2nd Nov. 2020

As you are no doubt aware, HM Govt. made the announcement that we are to be subject of a new national Lockdown as of Thursday 5th November. As such and without great surprise we must cease all group activities in the various guises as a club. To be clear there will be no Minis Rugby Sessions, O2 Touch Sessions or Senior Men’s Training Sessions until Thursday 3rd December at the very earliest…
We have also had notification that there will be no competitive league or cup matches for our seniors team this season, a notice from the RFU on Thursday last week stated that it was decided at a meeting of CBs that any ambition to deliver leagues or cups at Level 3 and below was unachievable.

These are testing times for us all, we would suggest that the cessation of our club activities for the next month or so is a small price to pay for the greater good and in an effort to protect our WONDERFUL NHS from being over whelmed in the coming weeks with this awful pandemic. Let’s all act responsibly and do as asked, stay home and stay safe.

Lastly, if you or someone you know is struggling in anyway, do get in contact. We are a community based club and we know that the rugby family can help in many ways. We will of course keep everyone updated on any changes to legislation and guidance.

Keep well.

Steyning Rugby Update - 29 May 2020

As a community based rugby club, thought we would update everyone associated with our club with what is or in truth isn’t going on across Men’s Seniors, MINIS or O2 Touch Rugby.
Ultimately we are following and watching for government advice on social distancing and “being alert” we are also in receipt of constant updates from England Rugby which typically mirrors government advice. You may have seen murmurs about the Elite/Professional bodies preparing or talking about playing again, this IS NOT the case at our level for any of our groups in the next couple of months.

From a layman point of view, the fundamental issue we have is two fold; a, keeping 2 metres apart (social distancing) and b, passing a rugby ball. Current guidance dictates we cannot exercise or train in anything larger than 1 on 1 unless you are from one household and we cannot share any equipment, this includes bibs, balls and cones. As such we must sit patiently and await these restrictions to be lifted.

We have effectively Cocooned (waiting to be butterflies!) the club whilst we are locked down. The essentials are still being carried out in the background.

We are looking to keep everyone amused as much as we can. If you have any ideas of things we can do please do shout. Equally if there is anyone in need of support locally let us know.

We will keep you posted.

Keep well and look forward to catching up very soon.

Richard - Secretary - FAOB SRFC.

As a bit of fun, we would like you to make a short video of you copying that famous Johnny Wilkinson Drop Goal from 2003! Video below as a reminder. You can use any ball you like - tennis, rugby, football or even a space hopper - but it must be a right footed drop goal attempt with the "high 5" celebration afterwards... Send your videos via this page or Messenger!

Steyning Touch rugby- we are being constantly updated by England Rugby about what can and cannot be done safely with regards to all levels of rugby. The current guidance falls into line with Government advice on social distancing and not gathering in non-household groups, as such any form of rugby in groups or simply passing a ball from one to another is currently not allowed... be assured we will be the first to let you know as and when we can get things going again and to what extent.

Captain Tom Moore's 100th Birthday Walk for the NHS

We don't usually post this sort of article... but this is so endearing. What a fabulous gesture from a chap who's already given more than most would in a lifetime. Go on, donate a little and put a smile on your face!

Due to HM Govt. and RFU notices, all rugby at all levels is postponed until 14th April. We will keep you posted. Keep well and keep in touch... If we as a club can help you or your community then please do get in touch.

16/03/2020

Guys, given the latest announcement by HM Govt. this afternoon that states we should avoid - and in the absence of anything from RFU - any social gatherings and unnecessary activities, we as a club will have to cancel this evenings touch session. Apologies for the short notice, but this is the socially responsible action for us to take. We will keep you posted... Richard

O2 Touch Session Monday 16th March - we are currently planning to run the session as normal.
However we are asking for a measure of common sense from all. If you or family members are showing any signs of illness akin to COVID-19 as stipulated by the NHS or Govt. then please stay away.
Keep well and hopefully see you all tomorrow.
