Long-service Anniversaries:
The delightful Christine and Michael S -have been on the team for nearly as long as the branch is old – 20 years this month! This length of service is rare these days but shows true dedication to their sites. Well done the pair of you! Thank you!
Rebecca I & Inara K – Both of which work on the same site are sharing their 2nd year Anniversary with us. Its amazing that much time has gone already, you look after your site so seamlessly as a brilliant duo supporting each other as well.
Georganna H – Having worked for us at a local health specialist site she is celebrating her 2nd year anniversary also. You are so easy to get on with it’s a pleasure to work with you.
Maria J, Julie B, Laurence E, & Maria T – two of whom work at doctors’ surgery customers and the other two at car showrooms are all sharing their first year anniversaries this month. Although this looks like the other end of the scale it is brilliant to see our new team members grow in experience and progress.

[07/01/21]   EURO’S 2020/2021… To celebrate the Euro’s 2020 (delayed to 2021) we will be offering a special prize to whoever predicts the total number of goals that England will score during the tournament. Please email the office before 30th June with your predictions. The closest prediction wins themselves a special item perfect for the warm summer nights ahead! To be revealed next time…

[07/01/21]   Vaccine distribution… It has been remarkable to see the vaccine being rolled out; in only six months all those down to the age of 25 have had (or been offered) their first jabs. Office Administrator Hayden was one of the last of us to receive his (being the lower end of the age bracket) and remarked how easy it was and that he didn’t even notice they had done the jab whilst he was chatting away to the nurse at the time. The only side effect (a sore arm) disappeared within 2 days!

[07/01/21]   New customers incoming… We are delighted to announce that this month has seen a steady stream of new contracts being awarded to our Sussex branch. Be sure to check out our newsletters and social media for these new cleaning job vacancies. Last month we announced how we had fewer vacancies but within a month this has changed due to our marvellous reputation which attracted customers very easily, without even marketing!

[06/17/21]   Save the planet with electronic payslips… We are now a few months into our electronic payslips – over 2/3rd of our staff have signed up to receive these electronically. The main benefit of course being they are much quicker at arriving than the post. If you would like to receive yours via email, please email the office at [email protected] giving us permission to do so.

[06/17/21]   Positive vibes… Speaking to our lovely team of Minster cleaning and support staff when you call in or when we meet with you on site, we know that Covid is making things very difficult for many of us. We also acknowledge that there are probably some who have not shared their concerns / difficulty with us and we wanted to just say that we do care and are always here to talk and help as much as we can. It might not seem like there is much we can do but sometimes just talking to someone can be enough to help each other through difficult times. Call us if you need to. Please.

[06/17/21]   Holiday bookings 2021… We would like to encourage you all to plan your holiday, of course this still needs to be considered within the company handbooks guidelines, and no more than 2 weeks at a time. Holiday requests must be submitted in writing with a minimum of 4 weeks’ notice please, which allows us to try to plan cover so that our customer receives a clean, to check your leave entitlement, and confirm back to you that it is approved. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask us.

[11/01/20]   Dear Team.

Hope you are all well and having an enjoyable weekend.

As many of you will have seen the address to the nation, I thought I should send a quick communication out.

We cannot be sure how these changes will affect our customer sites but suspect that their response will be varied, with some closing and some, including those providing essential services remaining open.

We have scheduled a management meeting on Monday morning to discuss the impact of the new restrictions, and will, of course report back to you.

In the meantime, please rest assured that we (Minster) have carried out detailed risk assessments for the Covid situation and how it affects our team, and likewise our customers will have completed risk assessments for their own premises. Any special measures will have been passed on to you already but if measures change we will be in touch, and will of course keep everyone updated as the general situation becomes clearer.

Can I please ask you all to continue to work as normal for the time being - although observing sensible precautions regarding personal hygiene, use of gloves and distancing etc. (please see previous newsletters). We will contact you over the coming days to advise if your site is going to be closing and how / if this affects you. If you do not hear from us please continue to attend work as normal.

Finally, during these unusual times it’s worth reminding ourselves how valued and important our cleaning services are, not only in the schools, doctors surgeries and other essential services but by all of our customers - for whom we supply an essential service.

Hi Team. Firstly, Hayden and I would like to say thank you to all for your continuing fantastic support. As we come to the end of a very unusual week, we find that the sun is shining and there’s not a rain drop in sight!

Over the next days and weeks we will be sending updates as soon as we have new information. We are on your side and want to make sure that we do the best for our wonderful team. [03/31/20]   Job Security Update
Sussex Branch of Minster are a NATIONAL group, employing over 4,600 cleaning staff across the UK. We always take professional advice to ensure that we absolutely comply with employment regulations and Government rules and this goes for the Coronavirus situation too. However, at the time of writing this (26th March) the Government have still not announced the detail of their promised assistance to employees and employers who should be able to “furlough” and pay 80% of wages of those who have no work.
I believe that it is highly likely that, if the site on which cleaning staff are contracted to work closes and does not require cleaning, and where there is no other local work, then we will be able to Furlough those affected. The situation where staff work on multiple sites – only some of which are closed is also not clear yet, nor is it known whether those sick, self-isolating absent for other reasons will meet furlough criterion. Please be assured that We are working hard to monitor the situation and interpret the rules aa they are announced. I will keep you updated.

[03/31/20]   Coronavirus / Corvid 19
We have done our best to keep staff updated with developments – as they affect them, and this has mostly been done using concise text messages from your Line Manager Julie (this being the quickest way to get the information out there). It is worthwhile relaying these messages here – just in case anyone has been unable to access them. The following are the full-length versions:

24th March (1 of 2):
Good morning team. The announcement yesterday (23rd of March) affects us all; the measures are broad, with some not being detailed, and this has led to reporting in the media with slightly different interpretations / wording.
The following is taken directly from the government website. It is what the government have actually said in their NEW RULES ON STAYING AT HOME AND AWAY FROM OTHERS:

1. STAYING AT HOME. You should only leave the house for one of four reasons.
● Shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible.
● One form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household.
● Any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.
● Travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home.
These four reasons are exceptions - even when doing these activities, you should be minimising time spent outside of the home and ensuring you are 2 metres apart from anyone outside of your household.

3. STOPPING PUBLIC GATHERINGS. To make sure people are staying at home and apart from each other, the Government is also stopping all public gatherings of more than two people. There are only two exceptions to this rule:
● where the gathering is of a group of people who live together - this means that a parent can, for example, take their children to the shops if there is no option to leave them at home.
● where the gathering is essential for work purposes - but workers should be trying to minimise all meetings and other gatherings in the workplace.

What do the new measures mean for our team?
Cleaning staff should continue to work because their work “absolutely cannot be done from home”, and take the sensible precautions previously advised - following basic guidelines regarding hand washing, not touching faces. Wearing latex gloves from the moment we enter customers premises may also be sensible.
Office staff and those whose work requires that they visit the office should continue to do so because their work “absolutely cannot be done from home”, and take the sensible precautions previously advised. We have already taken steps to “minimise all meetings and other gatherings in the (office) workplace” by partitioning and home-working.

For those customers whose premises are still open, cleaning will be more important than ever! Let us continue to work sensibly and pull together towards the happy time when things return to some form of normality. Coronavirus will not last forever and when it does pass, we will still have lives to lead and bills to pay!

24th March (2 of 2):
Dear wonderful cleaners. I’ve had lots of calls today from people concerned regarding pay and job security. I want to confirm that payroll will be completely normal this month (March) and, everyone will receive their pay for days worked (or days on which they were available but unable to work because of customer site closure etc) as usual on the last working day of the month which is the 31st of March.

Any staff are absent because of self-isolation in strict accordance with government guidelines, and who earn above the NI threshold of £118/week should qualify for SSP which will be paid as usual on 31st March.

Staff who chosen not to work for any other reason than those strictly defined in government guidelines will not be paid.

We are working closely with Head Office regarding job security, which is really important for us all and it is highly likely that all jobs will be kept open for staff as long as customers do not cancel contracts, and as long as they can be paid as part of the government furloughing scheme but details have yet to be confirmed. We should know more within the next two days and will communicate this to you immediately.

[03/22/20]   At this difficult time we are all going through, If anyone is out of work and looking for some part-time cleaning jobs to top up their income in the following locations, please PM me. Some of these may be temporary cover and some might become long term positions but all are also subject to the governments plans for tackling COVID-19.

[09/06/19]   Office Administrator Hayden took the time to leave a review online for us today: "I am proud to say i have been working at Minster for 5+ years now and hands down this is easily the best commercial cleaning company i have ever worked for. Being part of a national chain is a massive advantage and great knowledge pool to be able to share with. Head office are friendly and supportive to our needs as a branch as best as possible and they do listen to our concerns which is not common place in other national organisations. The team feel like a work family, we all have our ups and downs but the support is fantastic. We are such a close team we have little celebrations at different times of the year together, it is great to see. Cleaning can be a very hard industry, sometimes over looked and under-appreciated. A lot of clients want cleaning but cant afford to spend a lot so its about making it work with the resources you have and i think our team certainly do their best to make staff and customers happy. We are only human and sometimes we get it wrong but we do not sit on the fence, we own up and put things right. also this is the first cleaning company i have been at where all the staff muck in if need be to help make sure customers are happy and not missed out. Minster are pretty well up to date having the support of specialists in Employment law inc common practices such as TUPE, Health and Safety, GDPR procedures etc. Again this shared knowledge from 42 branches is a great help.
