Recent studies by Miyazaki show that 'forest bathing' can significantly lower levels of cortisol, a stress hormone, along with blood pressure and heart rate. Walking in the woods can boost the body's immune system by increasing anti-cancer proteins and enhancing the activity of certain cancer-fighting cells.

As so many are returning to work today, I have had numerous conversations with people who are feeling worried or anxious about it all. This is a post that I did after the first lock-down which I feel is still pertinent today

Anxious About Returning To Work?

Returning to work is going to be a challenge for many as the COVID-19 lockdown finally begins to be lifted. A large number of us will be interacting with colleagues and the public for the first time in over eight weeks and this could easily cause feelings of anxiety. I have certainly had numerous calls from clients that are worried and anxious about returning to work. So how can we help reduce those feelings as we return to work?

Let me start by saying that being anxious about COVID-19 and how it might affect our return to work is a natural, human response to feeling unsafe or uncertain about what might (or might not) be. It is a myth that worrying helps us arrive at a better solution. It only makes us feel anxious and stressed โ€“ especially if the worrying becomes chronic. Just knowing this can help us take useful steps forward.

Employers across the country are striving to put in place adequate safety measures to protect both you and anyone that you come into contact with as a part of your work. Be more aware or conscious of those around you, not in a fearful way, simply aware of their needs as well as your own.

Recognise that all possible safety measures are in place and that there is nothing more that you can reasonably do. Letting go of control is, paradoxically, a way of gaining it back. This can help us see things more clearly and with a calmer mindset. It also helps us make better decisions. Sometimes, however, this is easier said than done. For many it is very difficult to stop worrying or feeling anxious. For others the end of lockdown may bring some reticence about re-entering a more hectic life.

Return To Homeostasis - Migraines

After the basic exercise (see live last week Wednesday) which takes approx. 3 minutes we will then focus on special nerve trigger points to help with migraines (see trigger points and pain areas on diagram in the discussion).

Based on the tried and tested Polyvagal Theory, I will take you through an exercise that will help to restore your body-mind to a state of equilibrium and harmony. Particularly effective with stress, chronic stress, migraines, fibromyalgia, depression, PTSD and autism, among others.
The positive effects are accumulative so the more you practice the more resilient your autonomic nervous system will become. The long-term goal is to encourage the nervous system to return naturally, on its own, from a state of heightened alert, stress or depression to a state of homeostasis.

Because nothing in the body lasts forever and life has a habit of throwing us into the deep end, it may be necessary to repeat the exercise regularly (it only takes a few minutes).
Initially you will need to do this exercise lying down for a few times until you get the hang of it at which point you can do it sitting up.
I will remain online for 30 minutes after the live fee if you need any help.

Using a blend of various therapies and techniques working together to facilitate resolution and/or healing in your life.

Mel has worked in civil war situations in Africa as well as humanitarian work with Ethiopian refugees on the Kenyan border during the Ethiopian drought in the 90s. She has experienced war, hostage situations and other circumstances of extreme acts of violence and cruelty against humanity. After returning to the UK Mel was diagnosed with a condition that causes constant chronic pain and other co-morbidities. It was this experience that made Mel decide to move into psychotherapy, hypnotherapy and energy psychology - to help others living in pain. She was soon to learn that her previous experience with severe trauma would draw many others with unresolved traumatic backgrounds to seek her out for help. Her vision is creating a safe space enabling others to step back into their power and enjoy a better quality of life be this through private therapy sessions, workshops, classes or retreats - all of which Maelo Therapies offers
