The Labour dream team, Jean Healey, Councillor Liz McInnes and our candidate Neil Looker out again in Greenfield today.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to talk with us - especially those who were quite perplexed as to why Rossendale & Darwen MP Jake Berry had been leafleting in Sara Britcliffe's constituency!
Nothing quite like knowing your own patch, eh, Jake?
Very sorry to have a conversation with an elderly gentleman who had no passport, driving licence or travel pass, and it's too late to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate. Basically, this Tory Government are disenfranchising vulnerable people who live alone, are digitally excluded, and receive very little help. This gentleman has been denied his right to vote - this shouldn't be happening in a modern democracy.
Remember, on 🌹 and please remember to take your .

Meet your Labour Candidate: Adrian Lythgoe for Worsley
“My work in schools made me realise the challenges faced by so many families in our country and that the only way to support these families is by having a government committed to making a difference.”
Adrian has lived with his family in Rossendale for nearly forty years and all of his four children went to school here. He loves the surrounding hills and countryside offering so many fantastic walks, and also likes the fact that Rossendale is made up of so many small communities, each with their own identity.
Adrian believes that Rossendale would benefit massively from significant government investment in its transport network to ensure that traffic could flow both within the valley and allow access in and out. Proper government funding would also make possible investment in our leisure, sporting and health provision which is urgently needed.
As a Councillor, Adrian has been lead member for operations and environment for the last four years. He says “It has been great to work with our dedicated and hardworking officers on projects to improve our physical environment and attempt to contribute to tackling the massive challenges posed by climate change.”
He also chairs the Haslingden Strategic Board and since he retired has worked with charities supporting asylum seekers and refugees.
For most of his working life, Adrian was a secondary school teacher and headteacher with spells working in universities before and after his work in schools.
Adrian’s top three local issues are:
👉🏽Improving our transport networks.
👉🏽Maintaining and improving our health and leisure provision.
👉🏽Protecting our environment - the most important issue we have to address is climate change with the limited means that we have at our disposal.
Adrian's experience of working in education has inspired and determined his political direction. He's seen the real difference that a Labour Government can make to people's lives by the introduction of Sure Start, lifting children out of poverty and introducing the minimum wage, to name but three.
In what spare time Adrian gets he enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, walking, and gardening. He has been an excellent, hardworking and committed Councillor for Worsley ward and we’re delighted that he’s standing again to continue dedicating his time and skills to the people of his community.

Meet your Labour Candidate: Neil Looker for Greenfield
“Being a Councillor is not about what I want, it’s about what the people who live here want.”
Originally from Radcliffe, Bury, Neil has lived in Rossendale for over twenty years. Neil works hard as a lorry driver and is one of those key workers who really proved their worth during the Covid pandemic, ensuring that goods and services reached our doors during that very difficult time.
Neil is passionate about his local community, supporting local volunteers by getting involved with litterpicking and marshalling events. He’s taken part in sleepouts for Veterans, supporting work and fundraising for the British Legion.
A keen Trade Unionist, Neil joined his workplace Union as soon as he started work. His interest in workers’ rights started early. He tells us “At the age of eight, I lived through the Miners’ Strike and saw how badly Thatcher’s Government treated workers and communities and the fallout from that, with which those communities live to this day. I was determined from that moment to stand up for and protect workers' rights and for me, the best way to do that was to become part of the Trade Union and Labour movement."
In 2021, whilst driving his lorry, Neil was involved in a horrific accident caused by bad weather conditions. He is eternally grateful to the brilliant NHS Staff who looked after him, for the care and treatment they gave him, helping him back on the road to recovery. Neil knows how important good healthcare is, having been on the receiving end of it himself, and he will work hard to ensure that every Rossendale resident has good access to healthcare, free at the point of need.
In his spare time, Neil is an ardent football fan, supporting Manchester City and often travelling to away games both in the UK and further afield in Europe. He also sometimes finds time to watch Accrington Stanley and enjoys local cricket. He loves Rossendale for its green spaces and is a keen photographer and walker who also has a few marathon runs under his belt.
Neil wants Greenfield and Rossendale to be a safe place for all of us who call it home and will work closely with local police to tackle the crime and anti-social behaviour which sometimes blights our lives. Neil pledges to listen to what Greenfield residents want, and to work hard to achieve that.
Meet our candidate for Helmshore Ward, Ann McIntyre 👇🏾

Meet Your Labour Candidate: Ann McIntyre for Helmshore
“The best things about Rossendale are the friendly people and the beautiful countryside.”
Ann was born and bred in Rossendale. She left for university and then work but couldn’t keep away from our beautiful Valley and returned to live here over 30 years ago.
Ann brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from her previous employment as a Director of Education in a deprived Local Authority. She says “I saw how from the early years to GCSE and A level how much harder it was for those parents in poverty to support and incentivise their children."
Ann has direct experience of the impact of poor housing, nutrition and lack of support on young children and their future development. She's dedicated her career to helping low income and struggling families and she wants to bring her skills, knowledge and experience to the Council.
Ann worked to help families in the most challenging of circumstances, managing a team who provided services ranging from health promotion to debt advice, childcare, adult education and domestic violence advice and support.
Ann is now a carer for her parents, who are unable to live independently due to their complex health issues. She sees for herself the current limitations of both the health and care systems and has, in common with many, endured long waits for access to NHS care.
Ann says that her job and her role as a carer has definitely influenced her political thinking and has highlighted how urgent it is that we have a change in Government and policy direction and as a society do more to support the poorest and most vulnerable.
Ann’s top three local issues for Helmshore are:
👉🏽Improving and maintaining our roads
👉🏽Town Centre Regeneration
👉🏽Improving public transport, especially the rail link.
Ann is a busy and active member of her local community. She’s a member of the Soroptimists, a Trustee for Rossendale and Hyndburn Citizens Advice and an Independent Visitor for Children in Care. She’s always been active in Trade Unions, at one point working for the Trades Union Congress, and is now a retired member of the GMB.
In her spare time she enjoys running and walking and is a Marshall for local park runs. She loves cooking, gardening, reading and going to the theatre. Ann will make a fantastic Councillor and will bring the energy and appetite for change that Helmshore needs. Above all, Ann wants to work to keep Rossendale a great place to live, giving a helping hand to those in need and balancing our need for jobs and homes with maintaining the beauty of our Valley.

Very frustratingly, all my grit bin requests have been refused.
I sent this email regarding bins on Shoot estate and will be sending similar (without the typos 🤦♀️) about the reasons the grit bins in other areas are so important too
We have reported increased surface water due to blocked grids this morning on Campion Drive and again on Sunnybank Close in Helmshore.
Love Clean Streets app states they are programmed for work.
