💪 Asking for help ⭐️

Such a powerful and helpful quote to ponder on, especially as you prepare for/or are parenting little ones.
When you have a new baby in the home there may be times when you feel overwhelmed and in need of support- yet sometimes the prospect of actually having to ask for, or articulating what help you need can feel impossible.

Communication really is the key to opening up the doors to support. Try sharing honestly how you feel with those around you. Naturally most people want to help others, especially those that they love and care about. And when you put your trust in them and share how you really feel, I’d be surprised if that ask will be turned down.

🔸It’s okay to feel overwhelmed sometimes and to need the help of others
🔸It’s completely okay to feel out of your depth when experiencing something new, especially something as big as welcoming a new baby into the world (if you started a new job I imagine you wouldn’t hesitate to ask a colleague for help when getting up to speed, right?)
🔸Its okay to want help… but also not know what help you need. Try sharing how you feel and allow others to help you to work out what that support might be. Sometimes just unloading your thoughts out loud can help you unlock what you really need.

Asking for help is a skill to learn, and I invite you to give it a try, and keep practicing too ! I know I’m still working on it…

⭐️3 Months with 3 👧👧👶🏻

Last week my youngest daughter, Ottilie reached 3 months old. Those months feel like they have gone by in a flash ⚡️whilst at the same time, our life before her feels like a lifetime ago.

As well as getting to know Ottie and introducing her to the world- a huge part of the last 3 months has been adjusting to our new normal as a family of 5 and my step up to mum of 3 👧👧👶🏻
One of the most frequent questions I’ve been asked since she arrived is ‘how are you finding it with 3?’. And often my response is something along the lines of "definitely outnumbered!". But really, I have so many thoughts and ramblings about how that adjustment has been. So I decided to put my reflections of the first 3 months as a mum of 3 on ‘paper’. If your intrigued to hear what that transition has been like for me, check out my latest blog post (link in bio). In short- it’s chaotic and wonderful all rolled into one ❤️😊

🔥 Heatwave 🔥

I don’t want to be one to complain about the sunshine but wow, it’s a bit too hot now isn’t it!

For those of you who are pregnant or have little ones, a heatwave isn’t all that fun really is it?

I hope everyone is keeping as cool as they can and staying hydrated! 🧊 💦 ⛱

To hear a woman feel excited and calm about their upcoming birth and have trust in their body- makes me SO ridiculously happy.

So thankful for every single client review I receive. I feel so lucky to be part of a couples birth preparation and am thrilled to hear that they leave the course with a positive and relaxed mindset about labour and birth 🥳

Thrilled to share the safe arrival of little Baby August, welcomed into the world last weekend via C-Section delivery to his amazing parents, Amy and Barry🥳 and what a cutie he is! Check out the gorgeous family photo too.

Amy and Barry took a private hypnobirthing course with me earlier this year and were an absolute joy to teach. They welcomed me into their home each week (such a treat after 2 years of all virtual classes) and had such a calm and confident mindset towards both birth and the journey they have ahead as parents. We had a lot of laughs together too! ⭐️

Congratulations Amy and Barry- enjoy this precious time getting to know your wonderful little August. I can’t wait to meet him! 😍

⭐️ Hypnobirthing for C-Section 🌟

It’s a common assumption that hypnobirthing only applies to a vaginal birth- but I am here to confirm that is absolutely not the case!

The techniques we share on the Calm Births course are designed to prepare parents to feel calm and in control, for any kind of birth in any setting- including a surgical birth.

Did you know, that use of self-hypnosis (relaxation) during surgery is proven to:

•Reduce anxiety
•Reduce blood pressure
•Lower heart rate
•Increase haemodynamic stability
•Lower perceived level of pain
•Lower the risk of complications during surgery

As well as covering surgical births during the Calm Birth’s course, we also offer a Hypnobirthing for C-Section course, especially for those who are preparing for an elective c-section and wish to focus on this exclusively in their birth preparation.

If you would like to find out more about how hypnobirthing for C-section, please do get in touch!

🌟Swapping out fear for excitement 🌟

One of my favourite parts of teaching hypnobirthing is witnessing the shift in expectant parents feelings about birth from the first session through to the course wrap up.
More often than not, the feelings surrounding birth start with fear and apprehension. By the end of the course, those feelings turn to excitement and confidence.

The Calm Births Hypnobirthing course equips expectant parents with the knowledge and tools that ultimately unlock the door to feeling confident, calm and excited for labour and birth.

They say knowledge is power, and that’s absolutely the case when it comes to birthing- the more you understand how the body works, the more you can tune in to its natural process and achieve the calm birth of dream of.

It has been just over a month since my third daughter, Ottilie, arrived in the world and I am excited to finally share her birth story. Ottie was born in the water at home and was another incredibly empowering and positive birth experience. I absolutely love hearing and sharing women’s birth stories so I relished in the opportunity to write my own labour story again- I just forgot how hard it was to capture such a huge experience in written words! If you are curious to hear about Ottilie’s journey into the world, check out the link below:

I spend a lot of time talking about the benefits of Hypnobirthing for helping women approach labour and birth with calm and confidence- but this, is not where the benefits stop! There are so many more incredible benefits of Hypnobirthing for mother, baby and birth partners too! These include:

🔸A greater chance of going into labour spontaneously
🔸Fewer instrumental & surgical births
🔸Shorter labour times
🔸High success rate in turning breech babies
🔸Less perceived pain during labour
🔸Less fatigue during labour
🔸Less need for episiotomy
🔸Birth partners also become an integral part of the process & know what to do - they’re not a helpless bystander
🔸HypnoBirthing babies are also said to be calmer and generally have higher Apgar scores at birth (disclaimer, they don’t stay calm forever... mine haven’t anyway! 😉)

As well as my love for all things birth, I am passionate about the protection of our amazing planet. Since having my own children I have become increasingly conscious of what’s happening to the planet, knowing that this is the world my children will experience and see continue to change in their lifetime.
Helping to protect our planet doesn’t always need to be extreme actions and changes, any small change or step we can each make towards preserving and protecting our planet is worthwhile.

I think this quote by Jana Stanfield is a great one to reflect on: “I cannot do all the good that the world needs, but the world needs all the good that I can do”.

💛Birth Announcement 💛

And this time, it’s the birth of my very own! Meet Ottilie, my third daughter! Born calmly at home on Tuesday 12th April.
I am so excited to share Ottilie’s birth story soon- which I am pleased to say was another incredibly empowering and amazing experience with the support of the RBH Homebirth team.
But for now, we are focusing on bonding with our little love and adjusting to our new life as a family of 5 💛

⭐️ Date Fruit & Pregnancy ⭐️

Did you know that there is evidence to suggest that women who eat 6 or more dates per day during the last 4 weeks of pregnancy are more likely to go into spontaneous labour, have shorter labours and need less intervention?
As a date fan, this was a fact that I was very happy to get on board with!

If dates are not usually something you’d reach for but you’d fancy giving this a whirl, why not try popping a date or 2 in a smoothie instead of honey to sweeten it up or chopping them up into your porridge or cereal in the morning. My personal favourite is to dip my dates in peanut butter to satisfy a sweet craving! 🤤

💫 Delayed cord clamping💫

Isn’t the umbilical cord amazing? delivering oxygen and vital nutrients needed to allow your baby to grow in your body.

Once baby has been born, the umbilical cord will be clamped and cut, separating the baby from the placenta.
But have you heard about delayed cord clamping?

There is evidence that delayed/deferred cord clamping allows extra blood to be transferred from the placenta, increasing the amount of iron transferred to your newborn baby- as well as making babies blood pressure more stable after birth.

Delayed Cord Clamping is recommended worldwide by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and considered to be safe and effective.
