We change lives through fitness - PT, Small Group Training, Classes, Nutrition & Motivation
Unleashed Performance (formally Progressive Fitness Training Ltd, which was was formed in 2006 by James Parker, an ex-Army Physical Training Instructor and personal trainer) are a Reading, Berkshire-based small group personal training and group fitness company. Whether you are new to exercise, a seasoned veteran, a sports team, or a group of friends or colleagues, we will help you to unleash your potential. We currently run all of our training from our gym in Tilehurst, Reading.
What do actually want?
£20 gym?
Or
To lose the belly, feel good and have energy?
One you can buy and not have to do anything at all. You can have a gym and not go and let’s face it many of you do. You can say you have gym membership. That’s cool.
The other requires some investment (albeit relatively great value in terms of what you “buy”). It does though require some time and effort.
2 different products, 2 different outcomes. I think you’ll know which one you prefer.
If you’re ready and know exactly what you WANT come and have chat. Just know, nothing rewarding is ever given for free. Effort. Consistency. Time. Investment. All things you’ll need to be prepared for.
Message. WhatsApp. Email…When you’re good to go 💪🏽
Well who doesn’t??
Glute Bridges - Building butts since its invention in 1908 🍓😂
We like to start the week as we mean to go on…. Full body, push and pull and tons of energy… it’s Just another day at the “office” 💪🏽 (and we definitely didn’t “start again” today)
Ready for the week. 🔥
What a challenge. What a group of people! 🏔️
The National 3 Peaks is no joke. We took 12 Unleashed Performance legends on this challenge, and although we missed the official 24-hour target, it was still an incredible achievement.
Climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales back-to-back is something to be proud of. Individually they’re tough enough, but when your only “rest” is the drive between them to grab a quick nap, eat some food and then do it all again, it becomes as much a mental challenge as a physical one.
What really stood out, though, was the people we met along the way. Groups from all over the UK, all with different backgrounds, different stories and different reasons for being there. I have the utmost respect for every single one of them.
The common denominator?
As humans, we need challenge.
To grow, we have to push our limits. We have to ask ourselves, “What’s possible?” If we don’t, we stand still.
Halfway through, one of our team asked, “Why do I do this to myself?”
I thought about it for a while, and my answer was simple…
Because you can.
When it’s raining sideways, snowing, freezing cold, or you’re completely exhausted and every step feels impossible, the fact that you chose to be there changes you. It makes you tougher. It reminds you what real discomfort feels like and proves you’re capable of far more than you think.
If you spend your whole life avoiding hard things, you’ll have very little to draw on when life inevitably gets hard. But if you regularly choose challenge, you build resilience that carries into every other part of your life.
Along the way we met some incredible people. A team supporting Molly Olly’s charity who were pushing and carrying Ted in a wheelchair up the mountains. Another group representing Mates in Mind carrying heavy construction equipment. And, without even realising it at the time, we casually said “Good morning” to Princess Catherine! 😂
Challenge yourself often.
Get comfortable being uncomfortable.
Aim higher than you think is possible.
Live your life to the full because you only get one chance at it 💪🏽
What’s your favourite cue for Deadlifting?
Mine is “push the floor away”. It’s a simple reminder of the pushing action your legs should do rather than “pulling” the bar with your back.
It was a pleasure training Andrea and Callum (mother and son) and hopefully he was able to take some points away and stop “missing leg day” with his mates. ;)
At UP we coach proper technique and use whatever cues and methods work for individuals. In this example I had someone I’ve trained a lot of the years and someone I’d not met before. But it works.
If you struggle with technique or just don’t have good coaches at your gym… come and say hello. Happy to do one off sessions for you to learn or a completely full programme.
Perfection doesn’t exist. Especially when it comes to time. If I gave you a 2 week window or a 2 month window to start a programme you would find a reason not to start… a night out, a birthday or you have to take your nans dog for a walk on a Sunday!! A switch in your head will tell you “it’s not the right time as I won’t get the full benefit” 😂. BUT you would rather do nothing AGAIN and wait for the right time.
Summer is a crazy time for this. Cancelled sessions, cancelling PT, cancelling memberships, not working out… cancelling your health and fitness!
Instead just step back, bring it down level and understand that you can “tick over” and maintain what you have achieved with some less than perfect workouts. Or by starting now you’re not just wasting another 2 months being idle and looking for the magic time slot.
There’s lots of ways you can work with us this summer. In person 1-2-1, group fitness and online coaching. No excuses 💪🏽

Meet Yiying and baby Truman! Just six weeks after giving birth, Yiying is back training with Coach Tanya. She trained all the way up to a few days before delivery, making for a smooth pregnancy and a quick return to fitness. Now, she’s rebuilding her core strength and getting back to what she loves! We’re really pleased for her and it was wonderful to meet baby Truman! Coach (and occasional babysitter!) Tanya is loving her job right now too!
This is a great reminder that, if you’ve been training before, staying active throughout pregnancy can be both safe and help you return to fitness more smoothly.

Today UP crew took on the Brecon Horse Shoe hike. 19km 5 decent peaks including Corn Du, Pen Y Fan, Cribyn and Fan Y big and Cran Fan Dudu.
Just want to say a massive well done to
everyone who came today. It was a cracker of a hike and at 19km, with all those cheeky accents and equally tricky descents it is definitely worth being proud of that achievement.
We definitely had a bonus with the weather which made for spectacular views!
We always try and do things as a gym to aim for and help people see what they are capable of. Hiking is a huge part of that for us.
Hiking brings out all emotions and feelings. Random chats with people you don’t always get that time with (baby wipes aside was one today 😂) you have laughter, banter, times of doubt, time to just chill in silence with your own thoughts. All are good for the soul and clearing your head from the normality of life (maybe even stresses). When you look up at a hill, maybe the 3rd or 4th peak and ask the question “can i do this?” And you go and do it… that’s where character and resilience is built. It May not be the most enjoyable part at the time but i guarantee the next day it will be a highlight.
“Never again” on the hills becomes tomorrow’s achievements and bragging to friends and family.
Our next venture is the National 3 Peaks in June… bring it on 💪🏽

Meet Madison…
Madison started her personal trainer apprenticeship last November with us. Fast forward 15 months and she is now a fully qualified Level 3 PT. She passed her final exams last week, not just passed them but passed with DISTINCTION! 🙌
Maddy hasn’t just gained qualifications, she has become a very confident young lady in the process. The skills and qualifications are great, but she has learned so much more in terms of life skills… working in an “adult” environment, customer-facing, problem solving, and being friendly and approachable will set Maddy on whatever path she wants to do.
With more time and experience, we have a fantastic young coach that will become awesome and absolutely excel in the fitness industry.
Huge shout out to the rest of the UP coaches, especially Tanya and Emma, who have helped and nurtured Maddy. Plus the fantastic members who she sees daily for your support in her training. You have all massively helped Maddy in these early stages of her career and made her into this confident young lady.
Lastly… Madison is also my daughter, so I’m not just proud as a gym owner but unbelievably proud as her father. To be able to share a passion and pass it on is what every parent aspires to.
Well done Madison from all of us at Team Unleashed 🫶
UP Crew defo had that Friday feeling today! 🙌🏼❤️
What an amazing atmosphere this morning on both sessions. When sessions are like this it doesn’t feel like work. It feels like training with a group of friends and having a good time. (Obviously with some serious work when it’s needed).
I often find it hard to explain the difference between us and a normal gym. But when our members hang around after sessions chatting about food, going out or whatever is happening at the weekend… and everyone completely buzzing and happy. I wish I could just capture those moments and when the question comes up, just show them and say “THIS”.
Well done Good Friday Crew! Have an awesome Easter everyone and thanks for sending me into the weekend 🕺😄❤️
