🌳Usually, when we work with ecologists, we’re hoping nests and trees are empty so we can safely carry out tree works…
However, this recent job was something completely out of the norm…
Using our MEWP and experienced operator, we worked with ecologists and researchers to locate and inspect active magpie nests as part of an important research project.
Researchers are studying corvid intelligence, including birds’ behaviour, how they grow and learn, and the speed at which they develop. The wider project also aims to better understand how these highly intelligent birds have adapted to urban environments and city living.
A fascinating project to be involved in and certainly not your average day in the MEWP!🐥🪹

🌱 Habitat Creation – Supporting the Dingy Skipper Butterfly
Back in February we worked alongside Butterfly Conservation to carry out targeted scrub and vegetation clearance to help create and restore vital habitat for the Dingy Skipper butterfly.
This species relies on open, sunny areas with a sparse sward and an abundance of larval foodplants such as Common Bird’s-Foot-Trefoil, Greater Bird’s-Foot Trefoil or Horseshoe Vetch. These conditions are essential for breeding and survival.
One of the key threats facing the dingy skipper is encroachment of tall, dense vegetation, which can shade out both the bare ground and foodplants they depend on.
By carefully managing scrub and maintaining open habitat, we’re helping to ensure these important butterfly populations can continue to thrive.
