There's still time to book tickets for our live online interview with author, broadcaster, curator and former Notts resident Lucy Worsley!

Lucy grew up in West Bridgford and was possibly history's keenest volunteer ever at West Bridgford Library, where she spent all her childhood Saturdays. She went on to study history, researching a PhD thesis about Nottingham Castle and Bolsover Castle in Derbyshire, before making her career in London working in heritage and history television.

Join interviewer John Hess (former BBC political editor for the East Midlands) on Sat 15 May, 11am-12.15pm, tickets £5 - bit.ly/inspireLucyWorsley

Several weeks ago I did a #lipreading lesson about cakes... important preparation for visiting cafes post lockdown.

Little did I know that my exercise about #colinthecaterpillar, #cuthbertthecaterpillar and their friends could probably make a whole lesson now.

In the meantime #greatbritishmenu should be featuring next week, with all those #inventions and #inventors, not to mention #food

if you would like to join us and learn all about #lipshapes and #hearinglossmanagement #skills please get in contact.

One of the scenarios in my #lipreading teaching today for Deaf-initely Women will be about ordering at a cafe.

Thanks for the poster Hear Together

Following on from our post yesterday from NADP and clear face masks being needed in the health and social care sector.

Our 'five tips to improve communication while wearing a mask' poster might encourage your local shops, churches, community centres, cafes and pubs to become more deaf aware as lock down eases and the closed face masks are still in use.

If you would like to request this poster or any of our other fantastic poster resources to improve deaf awareness in your local community then please visit our website and request a copy via the link.

We are mourning the loss of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, who was a committed patron of RNID since 1958.

Prince Philip’s interest in hearing loss stemmed from his mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, who was born deaf and was so skilled at lipreading that people could not guess that she had difficulty in hearing.

The Prince first got to know the charity’s work in 1956 when he opened a hostel for young deaf men in London and in 1998, he generously agreed to take a hearing test to launch a campaign encouraging more people to get their hearing tested.

He also hosted a reception in Buckingham Palace on the day of his 90th birthday to mark the organisation’s centenary in 2011.

We are deeply saddened to hear about Prince Philip’s death, he was a great champion of our cause and will be immensely missed.

Our thoughts are with Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal family at this sad time.
