Hi everyone, I have been asked by quite a few people if I am still facilitating the pet first aid courses.

I can confirm, I am still eligible to facilitate these as I have kept my personal CPD and insurance up to date and I am in the process of responding to many requests. If you have undertaken a course with me in the past, I think you’ll remember how passionate I am about all animals being supported to the best that we can offer.

What’s the most common cause of heatstroke in dogs? If you said “being in a hot car”, you’d be mistaken. 75% of cases of heatstroke are caused by exercising on a hot day.
Tomorrow is going to be a scorcher, so, as well as not leaving your dog in a hot car, it’s vital that you avoid walking your dog during the hottest parts of the day, and stick to times when it’s cooler, such as early morning or in the evening.

Prep is everything 💜

I hear myself repeat this a lot, especially when doing training days, prep always seems to be the after thought or the thing groomers want to get through as quickly as possible and this actually has a knock on effect on the rest of your grooming process, spending a little extra time on bathing, making sure the coat is completely clean makes drying quicker, A clean coat will respond better to fluff drying and a perfectly straight and completely dry coat makes achieving a nice finish so much simpler.

* Always use the best quality products you can afford and try to keep them as natural as possible.

* Put diluted shampoo mix straight on to a dry coat so you are not diluting the products more than the recommended rate, this allows the product to reach the skin easier and it cleans the skin and doesn’t just sit on top of a wet coat and actually uses the same amount of product but you get a better clean.

* Always wash the face, ear leathers and feet twice including in between pads, grease and dirt left in these areas takes longer to dry and will damage your equipment.

* Rinsing is just as important and shampoo, if you leave product residue in the coat this again makes it harder to dry but can also cause irritation. I rinse to remove suds then rinse head to tail again just to make sure.

* Use conditioner, it hydrates and protects the coat and if you are using a suitable product for each coat type it shouldn’t make drying harder.

* Dry the coat starting on areas that naturally dry quicker, and leave areas like ears that hold the water until last, this ensures a good finish.

* Be systematic when drying and work your way around from one leg and forward, never jump from one area to another without making sure the previous area is actually dry, this causes curls and kinks.

* Use a hand held dryer to add lift in to the coat and reach difficult areas like armpits and inside of legs.

* Make sure the coat is completely brushed out and perfectly dry before styling.

* Clip nails, trim pads and hygiene areas before body styling. (Obviously exceptions for dogs that have issues)

*Avoid adding products to the coat after washing, A clean hydrated coat is all you need. On most client dogs those products will sit in the coat until the next groom and cause damage.

New week … Day 11 since surgery and Mr Mylo is getting bored … roll on Thursday when his stitches come out and we hopefully get the go ahead for him to start his physio

It is now one week since Mr Mylo had his Hip Replacement Implant removed as he completely rejected it … he then had the FHO surgery and although he remains uncomfortable I feel there is a chance we may be turning a corner on this long road to recovery … Mr Mylo … You are Strong … You are a Joy … You are Amazing … Check up and Stitches out next Friday then it is intense Physio for you, my glorious boy … You will Reach Your Potential because We Love You with all of our Hearts … XxX

Morning everyone … for all who have undertaken dog first aid courses with me and everyone else … I just wanted to say once again the importance of grooming and checking our beloved pets … a few days ago as I did Mishkas check I found a lump, obviously I took her to the first vet appointment available … she had samples taken and yesterday we found out the lump wasn’t a cyst as expected … it is actually a tumour … the fact we have caught it so early due to grooming and checking now gives Mishka the best chance she can have so please … I implore you all … schedule in a check as part of your routine … I know on all off my first aid courses I really pushed this with each session, now … I openly say … it’s imperative for our fluffy family members that we know and check for signs of change … wishing you all a blessed day x 🙏🌟🙏
