How do I find the words that convey just how truly thankful we, as a family are for all the past support that SJD has given our son over these past two years, and especially during this time of global pandemic.
How can we ever share with you all, just how much of a positive impact you have truly made to our child, and how immensely supportive you are for students who require additional help from time to time.
From your wonderful reception team, to our sons tutors and especially to Alison Whitely, who we hold in such high esteem as a family, we couldn’t say thank you more.
For any family who are considering SJD as their choice for their child’s higher education place, you certainly couldn’t choose a more well grounded, fully inclusive, outstanding practice such as this college and the representatives who work within.
Again, thank you Kerry, and to your wonderful team, of whom we cannot wait to see again when are daughter attends in twelve months time!.
Delivery of day two of a Level 3 First Aid at Work re-qualification course. Fitted in before summer break, to avoid the pressure when new term starts.
The Children's Commissioner has issued safeguarding & security guidance about using virtual classrooms, as many establishments have rallied to offer such. Zoom has published a blog post extending the guidance to additional security features such as registration, random meeting IDs and password protection.

Was delivery by remote classroom part of the disaster contingency plan for any subject? Who knows how this considerable time away from education will affect current Y12s (and Y10s).

Certainly maths & science at SJD's is working very hard issuing a LOT of emails, linking to a LOT of downloads & videos, with LOTS more details within the VLE, and the ability to email queries and speak to the Progress Mentor; however, these subjects are not using virtual classrooms, which would help with keeping some structure & social interaction for young people isolated as they currently are, while most importantly allowing them to carry on their studies as close to normal as possible, all variables considered.

Keep up the LOTS of good work, but managing to offer virtual classrooms would perhaps have been a game changer for many if not all students.

Here at Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College, we celebrate and value our unique diversity and are committed to creating a culture of inclusion and belonging. We are an anti-racist college, actively working to ensure that all students, regardless of their race and ethnicity can learn as equals.

Before the end of last term, an incredible group of students from the college's Diversitas Committee worked together to create this powerful and moving short film, which we delighted to finally share.

Throughout Black History Month we will continue to celebrate Black heroes who have made a lasting impact on our world and continue to inspire us in our everyday lives.

Congratulations to 18 of our Year 12 students who recently participated in a virtual work experience project with local company Storengy. Students were set a brief to research how the company could implement new initiatives to reduce the company’s carbon footprint with the aim to become carbon neutral by 2025. Students presented their findings and proposals in small groups where they were then challenged and questioned by Storengy representatives. The students were very impressive and the project was a huge success! Thank you Storengy for their time and expertise in supporting our students in the project.
