Busiest day ever for BEEtastic yesterday, thank you to everyone who supported us and a huge thank you to Lancashire & North West Beekeepers' Association for allowing us to visit their Spring convention

Preparing for the Spring Convention of Preston Beekeepers tomorrow. Chris and Buzz are looking a bit too laid back for my liking 🤣🤣

🌼 1st March – Meteorological Spring Begins🌼
For most people it’s just another date…
For beekeepers? It’s the turning point.
As daylight passes 11 hours, colonies respond fast. The queen increases laying, brood areas expand, and worker bees start bringing in the first proper pollen loads of the year, think crocus, snowdrops and early willow.
But here’s the geeky bit 👇

🐝 More brood = more mouths to feed
🐝 More mouths to feed = higher food consumption
🐝 Higher consumption = biggest starvation risk of the year
March is deceptive. Sunny afternoons can mean cleansing flights and busy entrances… but cold nights still cluster bees tightly around brood.
This is the month of:
✔️ Quick heft checks
✔️ Emergency fondant if needed
✔️ Clearing entrances
✔️ Watching, not meddling
The colony is rebuilding itself right now, quietly, efficiently, brilliantly.
Spring isn’t loud in an apiary.
It’s a low hum getting stronger.
